DiFranco's custom blend
I loaded up a pipe with it just a few minutes ago - enough for a good 30 minute smoke - I love that you can control the length of your smoke with a pipe so well.
It has a very pleasant room note - VERYVERY pleasant, and produces a good volume of smoke too. Packed and lit easily as well - perhaps a great starter smoke.
I loaded up a old Ben Wade Canadian, and it is very easy to draw, so I am slowing down a bit and just packed a little tighter. The smoke volume is still quite good. I think Mr. D has this stuff at almost the perfect humidity(but I prefer to call it dryness.
There may be a mild top flavor to this tobacco, but it is not insulting or annoying at all - very delicate. Flavorwise - the blend is so-so, not at all bad or really lacking, but neither is it a powerhouse that just has you licking your chops.
I think the real strength of this blend is in the room note and the easy with which it smokes - I just hot boxed it a little bit and I got a little bit of extra heat, but mostly just extra smoke. I am probably about 1/2 through the bowl, I did relight, but that was because I didn't pack it properly in the first place and after packing again the burn was a little bit off, I'd say this could easily be a 1 light smoke though.
Okay, enough about that stuff and onto the flavor:
it is tough to pinpoint the flavor because the blend is so forgiving and has such a great room note. There is a nutty flavor that I am catching that I really enjoy, almost like those toasted almonds you can buy in a foil bag with the salty stuff on them, I also catch hints of a malty note, but that could be the beer I just had: Shiner Light. I certianly have no complaints aboiut the flavor and it is quite pleasant(which to me is what smoking a pipe is all about).
All in all I would say this is one of the better house blends I have had. It burns nicely, smells great to those around me, tastes good to me and is easy to pack and smoke. Mr. D has every right to be proud of it!
Thanks for the opportunity Joe!
