I picked up 5 lbs of these greens from Coffee Bean Corral.
It was a gamble, as i have never tried them before, but based on the very high review from Sweet marias, i gave them a shot.
at over 8$ an lb they are a bit pricey, but when you drink it, you will see where the extra $$ goes.
They are a naural processed coffee, which can be troulblesome, but their sorting is quite good, and i had no problems with uneven roast at all.
So i used my usual custom profile in the IROAR, i noticed that the beans were taking quite a bit LONGER to roast than the Costa Rican i have alot of expirence with. i waited and waited for 1st crack, and never heard it.
Finally i stopped based on color and time.
I seem to be on the light side of city roast.
after a 3 day wait, the beans were ground up for an aero press.
Dry smell was very interesting... there some sort of fruit flavor in there, just jumping up and down, begging to be noticed. I just couldnt place it right away.
As soon as the H2O hit the beans i figured it out!
BLUEBERRYS!! plain as day, unmistakable, BLUEBERRY!!!
amazing, just like a flavored coffee i imagine!
after the press, the taste backed up the smell.
Blueberry dominated the inital taste, mixed with more typical subdued yirg floral/citrus notes. Followed by a very slightly earthy, more so chocolatly aftertaste (i think, ive been drinking alot of espresso lately, so my memory may not be 100% on the 2nd half of the taste)
Finally the cup finished Clean, never muddy, never bitter.
If you like unique, sweet, fruity/floral cups then this yirg hits all marks.
You have to check out this blueberry, it seems like a novel flavor that one would tire of, but its done SO WELL that i can drink cup after cup and not grow tired of that sweet blueberry flavor/aroma!
It seems this bean has blown up all over the place, as i see it being offered by several roasters. Even cafe Grumpy's was offering it, infact they were very taken by it and it was a favorite of the staff and patrons.
Im glad i snatched up 5lbs of the stuff, and im considering ordering more if they still have some!
If your into homeroasts, and blueberry flavor appeals to you, then grab a couple pounds, you wont be sorry!!
I just finished roasting a batch that will be used for ICED coffee.... now THAT sounds good.. a blueberry iced coffee.. wow!!
When roasted it seem this coffee ends up much ligher than other coffees... even Grumpys had it roasted WAY light... Less than city roast....
