  • Scott, I received the notification of your message and then promptly got lost trying to get back to where I was. The new additions to the software leave me a bit perplexed, I guess. Heck, I'm to the point where I want my life to be simpler---.

Anyway, good morning. I had coffee with a Taboo SF OB robusto this am. Wow, I like this cigar. Too bad they're not priced a bit cheaper. I'm getting my gear lined up for our steel plate shoot this afternoon. I haven't done any fishing. As soon as runoff was over, I got several well jobs. Now that I'm done with them, there is hardly any water in the creeks. My backpacking buddy went on his annual, 8 day trip with friends. I couldn't go because I worked 3, 24 hour well jobs in a row. He said the fishing was outstanding and he got tired of catching fish. Can you believe that? He caught some 15 inch brookies and many 17-20 inch cutthroats while I was at well sites where the temps hit 100 degrees every day. Not fair!

Yeah that was fun Scott! Nice of you to "call in". We all had a great time, just a perfect day and Vin has a beautiful house with a perfect deck for smoking and joking and eating, etc.
Hey there good buddy!!! Going up to Old Forge to do some fishing with the fam!! Should be a good time.. I'll be fishing on Forth Lake! Looking for the Big ONE!!
The Permit was a fun catch, and a surprise one at that!

I caught him a few years ago a the weekend before Christmas. I went down to Flamingo (right before the hurricane that wiped out the lodge at Flamingo) and we had been stalking redfish, snook, and tarpon all day. Late in the afternoon we decided to hit a couple of numbers in the Shark River on the way back to the lodge to dig up a mess of Mangrove Snapper for dinner. After catching a few, all of a sudden something hit and took off! We ended up having to chase him a little way with the boat. After his first run I got him close enough to see him and thought it was a big Jack Cravalle. The second time I got him close to the boat I got a better view of him and asked my partner (a retired Key West Fishing guide) if there would be Permit this far up the Shark River (usually they are found over wrecks or on the flats). He blew it off as just a nice Jack. The third or fourth time I got it close to the boat, I hear "Holly Sh_t, it's a Permit!" from the poling platform. Finally landed and released him shortly thereafter.

He wasn't a particularly large fish as Permit go, but considering all of the mangroves and the narrowness of the river where we were, it was definitely exciting!
