It really depends on the seal. This will determine whether or not it will hold in the humidity.
I've never used a cigar box as a humidor but others have.

I'm just too lazy to take a picture of mine tonight. It's full of beads, boxes, trays, a hygro. and cigars, and it serves the purpose.

I have used dry boxing for awhile now. I put several cigars in a small travel humidor, with 60% beads, for at least 3-4 days.

Looks like I have 3 choices in St Augustine...St Jorge Tobacco, Stogies Jazz and Blues Bar, and The St. Augustine Tobacco Company.

Leave it open preferably outside for awhile. I've also had success with baking soda. Pour it into a bowl and close the lid for a few days to a week.
Flavored cigar smells are tough to get rid of.
