If you want a great 3 finger case the get a Le Tube cigar case. I have a bunch of cases including the Xikar one but I tend to reach for this one the most. It is not fancy but seems to work great and it has humidification in the top if you need it. The websites below is just as a reference...

I am glad things worked out for you. IMHO this is a design flaw. Mine did the exact same thing a couple years ago. I was reaching for it on my desk which is 30" high and it fell on the floor and flew a part. I finally got it back together but ordered a Palio shortley after and never looked back...
