5 cigars every newbie should try

A friend of mine has expressed interest in starting cigar smoking and asked me to give him a list of 5 or so cigars that every newbie should try. As I was pondering over this I realized I am still to unexperienced to make such a list alone. Now I am here asking the rest of you to help me formulate such a list.

I am thinking if we can get a pretty good consensus I'll go pick him up a few this weekend but I just don't want the list to only reflect my tastes so I am asking all of you to help with making a list of the 5 cigars every newbie needs to try.

Thanks in advance:cb

I would say you should have at least 3 mild connecticut wrapper cigars. Maybe a 5 vegas gold, a gurkha symphony, and a connecticut wrapped carlos torano. Then maybe one good maduro and the last would be a x000 padron. And I'd tell him to smoke them in that order. That would give him a bit of a warm up w/ the mild, yet delicious sticks, the a sweet maduro and finally a not-too spice nicaraguan.

Perdomo Lot 23
Perdomo Reserve Champagne
RYJ Vintage
Carlos Torano Casa Torano
Bacarrat

good star there.

then hit him with a Padron x000 series.

Of course, I would suggest a Macanudo Cafe Hyde Park. Great overall beginner's smoke. (I still have one every once in a while).

I'm pretty new too so I'm sure there will be better answers but I'll give it a shot. Obviously you want different stuff so here'd be my list:

5 Vegas Gold
Padron 2000
AF Flor Fina 8-5-8 Sungrown
something out of the Montecristo Afrique line
The Edge by RP

Here's 1. - Punch Rare Corojo Pita.

See this is exactly why I asked for help I always seem to forget about punch and I think they are a good smoke but just dont stick in my head.

I was also thinking of a padron x000 series maduro and sancho panza double maduro because I think they are both very good.

Don Pepin Garcia Invicitios
Tatuaje Angeles
Rocky Patel Sungrown
Padron 2000
La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero Chisel

Not exactly mild, but not every smoker requires mild smokes when starting.

he has had a few cigars with me before so strength is all to much of a concern I have given him some diff. cigars none of which have been to strong for him. If he is with me when I go into the cigar store he usually gets whatever I get but I just figured helping him find his own tastes will be better then him just following mine.

although maybe the chisel might be a bit much for him?

These are the five that got me in to cigar smoking.
1.Punch London Club.
2.Padron 2000.
3.AF Breva.
4.Oliva Special 'G'.
5.Sancho Panza Double maduro.

Good luck in your cigar hunting.

Here is 6: :ss
Padron 2000 M or N
Padron 3000 M or N
Padron 4000 M or N
Padron 5000 M or N
Padron 6000 M or N
Padron 7000 M or N
etc....

1. Punch Rothschild Maduro
2. Oliva Series G Toro
3. Padron Delicias Naturale
4. Fonseca Habana Seleccion Delicias, or Invictos
5. Vintage 1992 Rocky Patel Churchill

All of these are affordable, smooth, and good. The Punch was my first cigar and I highly recommend it for a new cigar smoker. I wouldn't go with anything too strong otherwise too much strength may turn them off.

Darrell is just a mad man!!! :tu Although point taken... a few of my buddies jumped in on LGC Serie R's. I still can't smoke one with out thinking WTH am I doing?

For a newb looking at the entire scale; I would recommend:

Macanudo Hyde Park
Torano 1916
Padron 2000m
Fuente 858m (as others have recommened)
Tatuaje Tainos (as the kicker!)

Even being a newb, i appreciated the quality in a Padron 64 anniversary, very nice smoke, and the first that i ever nubbed, even when the smoke got kinda warm, it still was a nice flavored smoke. Gotta add it as a splurge for a newbie to try.
