65% or 70%rh Heartfelt beads?

Newb here...And I must say...I've learned quite a bit from reading this forum. Thanks to all!:tu

I've smoked quite a few stogies in my life and I've finally started to "pay attention"!:D

I've heard so many differing opinions...but thought I might get the straight "scoop" here.

Are stogies "better" tasting around 65% or 70%? At which rh do they "age" better?

I realize that personal preference comes into play...among other factors...such as "getting into" a humi several times a day, temp...etc.. But as a "general rule"...with all things left constant...Which rh do all the wonderful BOTL's prefer?

Thanks kindly in advance!:ss

There are quite a few threads on here, some including polls, discussing this. So you may find more responses, especially by some of the more knowledgeable, long-time members, by searching.

Anyway, I prefer mine around 62%, which I usually maintain with some 65% beads.

Welcome, go over to the new mamber forum and introduce yourself...but WELCOME!

I prefer 65% for aging (wine fridge) and 70% for smoking (desktop humi)

it's personal preference-i've used all 3, & stayed w/60% in the "ready to smoke" humis (keeping them 62% to 64%) and 65% in the storage/aging coolers (keeping them 65%/66%)-cubans, pepins, or cigars w/a lot of corojo or criollo in them seem to like 62% to 65%-keep in mind if you switch beads from a higher RH to a lower, it takes awhile for the RH to drop-the beads are better at releasing moisture than absorbing it, but are still the best option i've found-when i switched i had to let the lid open & drop the RH to lower than the new beads, then use the beads to bring it back up-hope some of this helps

I will try improve to my "search functioning"...lol.

I just know I'm going to end up with a dozen or two humi's...But...I've always wanted a reason for a new addition to my house! :D

Thanks again!

I went with the 65% beads....

my desktop cheapie humi stays around 62%, and my coolerdor stays about 66-67%.

both have 65% beads, but the cooler has an extra puck humidification device ( that actually came w/ the desktop humi) :ss

Thanks for link jaymz!

I'm a firm believer that the "more" info...the better!:tu

Thanks again to all that have replied so far!:D

I've got 65's in my coolerador, and it sits up much higher, nearly 70. I was surprised to see this. Reason being: It's incredibly dry right now in my pad, and I'm hard pressed to get my desktop above 65% no matter what I do. I'm actually debating re-seasoning and was wondering how often (if at all) people do this.

As noted by Croatan, there are ample threads on this, but the short answer is that both anecdotally and scientifically, cigars smoke better and age more gracefully at the lower RH. I keep 65% beads for mine.

whatever you go with, more is better as more beads will allow your storage device to recover faster after opening. I have about 2.5 lbs of 65% Beads in my 150qt Cooler.

i also plan on buying the beads i was in the same boat as you. im thinking i might go with the 70 % its mainly personal pref ... good luck from one newb to another.
