A Fuente Chateau Fuente

So I have had this little bugger sitting in the humi for far too long (about 2 months). I thought that since it was a nice night last night I could light it up and sit by the fire.
  • Construction (7/10): Nothing special here. It wasn't poor but it wasn't great either. If you gave me a day or two in the rolling room I could do about the same...average
  • Burn/Draw (8.5/10): So maybe it was constructed a little bit better than I thought. There was plenty of smoke and a comfortable draw. The pre light was hinting at coco which had me going...for a while. I did have to correct the burn a couple times (lopsided) but not to relight.
  • Flavour (7.5/10): If there was ever a cigar to break down into thirds this would be it. The first third was a huge dissapointment. The cigar really :BS the bed here and I almost put it down. No balance, harsh tabacco taste with a little bit of spice (unpleasent kind). I was very glad that I waited however. In the second third the cigar mellowed out. The harsh tabacco dissapeared and was replaced with wood, earth and mild spice (pleasent kind). I did have a hint of coco at the start of the 2nd and then it dissapeared. It did come back into the final third. But with it came the Tabacco taste. Not as harsh as before but it subtracted from the exprience. This built as the wood and earth faded. I tired purging to get it back but no luck. I finished when the heat was too much (about an inch or so left).
  • Value (8/10): Above average value on a less expensive DR stick.
Overall (7.5) It wasn't my favourite. I really enjoyed the cream filled center but the pasterie on the outside had spoiled. I think a little more time is needed as it could become a quality stick. Until then I will smoke something else.

I have a few of these in the humi and smoke one once in a while. Mine are about 2 years old now (have got 6 left). The ageing makes them a bit better than the fresh one you describe, but I really think they are over-rated.
I would rather smoke a Fuente 898 natural or maduro any day of the week. JMO.

I agree that aging helps them a lot.

Of course after you try the Sungrown version it is hard to go back to Connecticut. :)

If you do buy sungrowns please age them for a year or two. You will thank me later.
