Advice on trip to JR Tobacco

My wife and daughter and my son in law are going to a wedding in NC this weekend. He is a BOTL as well, and while my wife doesn't know it yet we are stopping at the JR store on the way. I have had cigars from JR in the past but really never bought much from them. I am looking for a few recommendations to buy as a sampler while there. I really like the Oliva V line, Taboo twists and Camacho triple maduros right now, which says my tastes are sorta all over the medium to full range. So anything that fits in there somewhere is good or if you have had something that really knocks you out from JR, give me a heads up.
I view this as road trip to a new part of the slope:D

Thanks for you recommendations!

The Manhattan store carries the Triple Maduros, I know that for sure.

If you're looking to get further down the slope you may be headed to the right place. They have plenty of samplers of damn near everything, which you should check out.

A forewarning though, I'd reccomend something like Sancho Panza Double Maduros to you (as you mentioned the Camachos), but the NYC store doesn't do singles of the cheaper stuff, only boxes. I don't know if it's the same in NC though.

The store in Statesville has a better selection (so I've heard) over the one on I-95. That is if your in that area as they are in different parts of the state.

Since Lew sold out to Altadis, that has quickly become the case in NC. The Statesville store has the best selection, imo. It's a cool place to go but you can find much better b&m's.

Which one were you going to visit?

The Bolivar Cofradia's #554 (Maduro) are really good but they do require some Humi time before cracking the box.

I bought a box and let them sit for a year and boy was I surprised!!
The Cigar turned out to be one hell of a great smoke.. "Hova can Confirm :tu "

I plan to pick up 2 more boxes for aging when I have the cash.

Have fun @ JR and don’t go off the deep end, the store can be overwhelming

I believe it will be the Statesville location. It is right off on 77. Charlotte is where we are heading.

Then by all means, visit McCranies on Park Rd in Charlotte or on your way down 77 stop off at exit 28 Cornelius. A smaller McCranies is located in the Shops on the Green right off 77 behind Lake Norman Dodge. :tu

A blend that is usually only found through JRs is the Montecristo Afrique and I recommend you pick up a few. They have really good 5 pack deals on those and many others. One time I got lucky and they had Opus in the singles area for MSRP.

I just went to JR's at Statesville last week..xit 153. They did not have any Fuente but did have the Padron 150 or 160..Strataverios....really good deal on all the La Aurora Preferidos....in all colors by the box or singles. Can't remember about the Camacho because that gar is a little harsh for me. They did have 2 nice Opus X humidor seconds...didn't see anything wrong. They had a nice selection of La Flor......none of the barrel aged..all I can remember

They don't carry Padron. You must mean Partagas.

McCranies is the place to find Padrons and anything made by Fuente, including Ashton.

Where are you from in Ohio?

I try to stop there (Statesville) every time I go down to visit the son (Charlotte area) The last few times I was there I was not impressed with the prices. I have tried a bunch of the knock off stuff and always felt cheated. Not that they were all bad, just not worth the money. The place is huge and cool to see once, but there are much better deals out there IMHO. Like many other things, opinions vary so you may find something you like. I was down there 2 weeks ago and drove on past the exit without getting off.

In one of the NC JRs, I found the SPDM Cervantes in the 5-pack section for under $10. Check there!
