Aged Ashton VSG?

I have been visiting a local, albeit not spectacular B&M for a couple of years on and off and about 14 months ago (give or take a month or two) he got in his first shipment of VSG. These do not sell well at his shop because most of the clientele come in for cheaper cigars. They are priced very reasonable for an online e-tailer which makes them great for a local place.

The question: he still has an unopened box of VSG Robusto for $228 that I KNOW FOR A FACT has been there for at least a year. I can not seem to let mine age that long so I was wondering if any of you gorillas have had a well aged one and if so, should I jump all over this box? I may be able to get them for $206 with a box discount so let me know.

I have a couple of boxes from '01 (torpedo and spell bound) they have aged very well, IMHO
(I do love them fresh also, but the experimentation is too much fun ;) )

I hit a pile of Tres Mystiques in an open box in Conyers, GA. What I first thought was dust was clearly plume when the smokes got into the light. Bought the handfull. Stellar smokes. Age unknown.

Jump on it !

The Ashton and Opus line are the best after a year or two of age on them.

Get those cigars.

The only plume-y ones I ever saw or smoked were these few Tres Mystiques. No idea how long they took to get jazzed. I'm not an Ashton expert, but $206 less box discount of (whatever) sounds good. I'd split it with you if you want. VSG good. Aged VSG better.

I am not sure about the plume because the box is still sealed but I have had an LGC from that store with plume so he does keep his humi pretty good. Let me see what the final price is before I look at a split. If I do split it will be with you Dan.

Cool. I'd love a few more VSG's hanging around. Love a VSG. :)

:tpd:

These are one of my favorite NC's when they've got a year or more on them. My local B&M keeps boxes of these for a while also. Go for it. You won't regret it.

I have a few ashton's that I have had for over a year. They are great. They really smoth out after a year as if they weren't smoth before.

If you don't want it I'll take it. :D Have a box of tres mystiques from 01 that taste wonderful and also have a box of sorcerers from 02 that taste just as good. Jump on it, smoke a couple and then rest them for a couple of years.

Just had a Beli No. 1 that has been in the humi for about a year -- they seem to be mellowing nicely. Still pretty powerful but smoother than the fresh ones.

Try and beat him down a bit more on it $206 is a bit steep even for VSG's

Well, we haggled a little and I came out of there with a new (at least in theory) box of Robustos. I took some pics but they are too big to post here and I haven't figured out how to have it hosted somewhere yet. I will try one sometime soon and post a review. Oh well, I guess you could chalk it up to storing them for winter.
