Almost no maintenance for my Vino, is this normal?

Hey Vino owners,

I've had my Vinotemp for almost 4 mo. now. I have 2lb. of 65% beads in there along with cedar shelves, boxes and some of shilalia's bead sticks scattered about. I also have 2 Oust fans in the bottom facing the rear/center of the Vino. Here is the thing, I almost never have to recharge the beads or do any maintenance whatsoever. It just constantly keeps the humidity between 60-65%. Also, I have not plugged the drain hole. Am I just lucky or do the beads really work that well?

Any thoughts?

Jay

I've had pretty much the same experience...the only time my RH fluctuates is when I add boxes. No plugged drain hole here either.

Have the same experience with my wine chiller (it's off though) and all my coolers - they are all using the RH Beads and only have to rehydrate them a few times a year (I don't open them much).

Have had mine going (28 bottle) for a couple of months with 18 ounces of Shilala beads and haven't done anything to it except check it obssesively.

Same thing here. I haven't plugged the drain hole either and almost zero maintenance. It's gotta be the best bang for buck cigar storing method out there.

Same here. Although I do get some humidity fluctuation when the chiller kicks on, nothing major and all within allowable range. Haven't charged the beads in a long time, but I have a LOT of Sp Cedar in there. Also the RH round here during the summer is in the 60+ range anyways, so I won't have to worry for a long time. Mine is not exactly a vino, but an Urbina, and the highest setting was too cold so I had to get a temp controller. If I had the money I would probably grab a vino to put right next to it.

I haven't had to rewet the beads in my cooler since I got it, which was about 3 months ago. Vino's and coolers don't have the wood surface area that a regular humi does, so there isn't anything to suck the beads dry besides the sticks.

I don't even have a regular humi anymore for this reason, and just use the cooler, no maintenance.

As long as you keep it at a reasonable temperature, on its side so the cork stays wet, your vino shouldn't need much maintenance...

Same here. :tu

I have about 1.5 lbs of beads separated throughout my vinotemp and I never plugged the drain as well. I think I have added water twice in the last six months and once because of I moved. I only added water to one or two of the containers and have never had problems.

I am just using the metal wire shelves that can with the unit as well (too lazy to get cedar ones). In terms of cedar, I only store boxes in my vinotemp, so there is plenty of wood. :D

I have 3 vinos, 2 with 1.5lbs, one with only 1lb. My drains are plugged but same thing here, i even recalibrated my hygros because I was getting nervous. Even when the cooler kicks on (just started up here in Wyoming), I don't get fluctuations any lower than 2 degrees. Haven't put water in them for a couple of months.:ss

I bought a Nibo Spacelighter (I think that is what it is called) anyway, it has the 3 flame torch which is great. The problem is that I have to use another lighter to light it. I do not think the spark is not enough to ignite the fuel. Is there some wat to adjust it or do i have to come to grips with the fact i got a bunk lighter?
