An upopular stance.....

I recently noticed that I am reaching for Pepin blends less and less and chalk it up to a taste change.

I'm not clearing out my stock in hope that one day I will begin loving them in the way I once did.

They demand a price tag. The only one I would return to and buy would be the Black. The rest are good, but not enough to empty my wallet.

My problem with many Pepins is that once I put them in the dry box I get impatient and grab them in a day or two and get disappointed.

When I let them sit for a week or so they are great. My example for today--a Pepin Blue that I kept my hands off for a whole week. There was pepper I hadn't tasted before and the finish (which had never done much for me before) became smooth and very very good. I almost burned my fingers off trying to nub it.

When they are dry they just have taste that wasn't there before. I don't understand it, but that is how it is with the Pepins.

Thanks for sharing this. I'm going to try it.

To each his own. Smoked the entire line of Tats except the Black and always find them delicious, but for me they are more of inpulse buys when I go to my B&M in Maumee and looking for a change of pace.

I really like the Tatuaje Brown and Red labels. But I prefer the DPG Blue and Black labels over the Tats, and I prefer the robusto size in the DPGs, the Blue just nudging out the Black for top spot.

Having said that, the Tatuaje J21 I smoked this evening was very, very nice.

I've only had a couple, J21, regios, petit and a lancero my local received once. I liked them, but not enough to run out and buy a box. Although I found the J21 and lancero very, very good ... their price brings the value down.

A few years ago I smoked a Tat Brown Label and didn't care for it, but now I really enjoy them. I think I was to much of a noob to appreciate them at the time, but I say smoke what you like. What others think doesn't matter if you are the one paying for and smoking the cigar.:2

My buddy is sending me some Blacks, and I look forward to those because I've heard so much. If those fail to live up to the hype, I'm going to be really let down.

If you didn't like the other Tats I don't think you will like the Blacks either. They are a more concentrated version of the ones you already don't like.

Once a cigar gets hyped it is virtually impossible for it to live up to that hype for everyone. Keep in mind that your tastes will probably change over time so revisit the Tatuaje brand somewhere down the road. You may find out that they are better than you think right now. In the mean time try and avoid the hype and smoke what you enjoy.

By the way PM me if you need to get rid of the Blacks I will be happy to take them off your hands.

I've had maybe 10 of the brown labels becasue the first was among the best I've ever smoked, the other 9 did not live up to the expectation set by the first. White and reds have just been ok for me.

smoke what you like but try more than one of a marca/vitola before you mark them off your list

This ^post inspired me to grab a brown (had a seccond band, reserva?) that Mr Silly sent me and damned if it ain't the bee's knees. Tastes like a Cuban Bolivar a bit, even has a deceptive flaky ash albeit white white. Not a bad cigar at all.

See there, dangerous to write something off completely

edit: good lawd don't let popularity be your benchmark, you'll miss a lot of hidden treasures that way!
