Arrhythmia ruining my hobby :(

This totally SUCKS. In February, out of nowhere, I started getting what have been DX'd as "Pre-Ventricular Contractions". A benign (but scary) arrhythmia in the heart. They're worse at night for some reason, when I tend to smoke. I'm already on a special diet removing preservative and chocolate and sugar etc. which helps, but the nicotine causes PVC's more than 50% of the time, unless I puff VERY sparingly (which causes the stick to go out).

I am facing the prospect of having to quit on of my favorite hobbies. I'm picking up the exercise level and working on stress to try and eliminate the PVC's, but apparently once you start getting them, they're here to stay.

I was wondering if anyone else here has palpitations or "Pre-Ventricular Contraction" that has impacted your cigar hobby negatively ? Obviously most that have quit won't be here to see this, but I'm interested in hearing opinions on whether people with benign palps have continued to smoke. I will not go on beta blockers or any such drugs; they can actually cause fatal arrhythmias, no thanks. Seriously, what kind of paradox is that anyway ?

Anyhow, I'd be very interested to hear from palped-out smokers that are still with the hobby. At age 34 I am extremely displeased with this development.

Thanks
Jayson

Hi!, I also have had an issue with arrythmias. However mine turned out to be caused by my seemingly unrelated arthritis meds. Mobic and Celebrex, about a week after starting taking them it would start, about a week after quitting they'd be gone. So, if you're taking any other meds you might have a look at them and talk to your doctor. It may be the nicotine just aggravates a condition caused by something else. It also would more than likely help (I know you won't like to hear this :), to quit salt (Mrs. Dash Lemon pepper and Table blends are great also balsamic vinegar and wine for cooking) and be sure to eat lots of veggies, keep that BP under control :).
Hope this helps, Take Care

Are you on beta blockers? I know there are plenty of meds out there that prevent, or diminish PVCs (Poly Vinyl Chlorides?).

Hey Jayson, have you had a holter monitor?

I'm really sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, I don't have any information, only wishes of best luck to finding out how to fix/control the issue. While it may be disappointing if you do have to give up, ultimately, your health is what's important. Why not try the pipe and see if it makes things better? :pp Good luck!

Amiodarone is used for patients who cannot tolerate beta blockers. There is also a procedure done through a cardiac catheter in which the cells causing the PVCs are destroyed - offering a permanent solution without medication.
