As I'm about to turn 50...

Evolving Lead Gorilla
I think back over all the years about all the different cigars I've tried. I always gave them a fair chance by smoking at least 20 of each. Now, I've tried to stay on the low priced end, but I have smoked many ten+ dollar cigars. It seems that no matter the cost, inconsistancy is always present. Some are better than others though. What cigar has everyone smoked in numbers that has been constant? You know, burn...taste...aroma? Just curious if there is such a smoke. I've developed a habit over the years of always carrying two cigars in case one is not so good. Like a spare tire. I only smoke one per day. As I write this, the ERDM I'm smoking tastes pretty bad. This is not the norm for this brand however...most have been excellent.

What has always been good for you?

In the 2 years in which I've been really into cigars, I've smoked many ERDM Robustos. Heck, they were the wedding favors for the menfolk at our reception. I don't think I've had a bad one yet.

If you are talking about Non Cubans. The Padron Maddie #9 is the best.

For Cuban, I have very good luck with the Monte #2s !

I would recommend the Helix (a tubed lonsdale). It's relatively cheap, the packaging is sufficient to withstand most terrorist and nuclear disturbances, and while it's quite mild, it's ALWAYS been enjoyable for me!

It's my "spare tire."

I do like the ERDM brand. So much so, that I've gone thru 3 boxs of robustos and have 4 more in the humidor. They always burn great, but once in a while, like tonight, I get one that just tastes bad. Still, one of my favorites.

Padron 1964. I've smoked about a box of 1964 Exclusivos. All perfect burns. I just smoke my first 1964 Principe tonight. Perfect burn as well and nice tight ash. They are pricey though. Around $8 for the Principe and $10 for the Exclusivo (as high as $13).

Party Shorts is my most reliable smoke at the moment. Lately I've been smoking Trinidad Reyes and must say that it is also very consistent, both these under +-6 dollars! ;)

I have found that any smokes from the Torano lines have always been consistent.
Really an exceptional value for a good cigar.

Just my nickels worth.

Well, as far as having no flaws, I would have to go with Hoyo de Monterrey Excalibur. I have never had a bad one. With all other cigars I have smoked by the box I have had the occasional plugged cigar or one with off taste. I have been smoking Excaliburs for close to 15 years. They were one of the first cigars I ever smoked. Not as a daily smoke, but as an occasional 1 or 2 a month type of smoke when I am in the mood for something mild. It is safe to say I have smoked at least 150 of them in that time frame and have found them to be consistant in both build and taste.

I find Cusano to be consistant with flavor and construction. I have never had a plugged cigar from them, which is my biggest complaint about cigars. Though they tend to be a little spoungey. They are pretty consistant with flavor too.

For consistency I always turn to Monti #3s....even the NC variety seem to always be consistent.

Also, one that you may not have heard of but my brother turned me on to. They are Don Juan Platinum Series. You can order online and they are quite inexpensive. Not very strong but very consistent.

Padrons, all of them. All Torano's and La Aroma de Cuba's and even LFD's. I don't think I've ever had a bad one of any of these!:w

if you have the means and ability to procure - the Monte #2 is one of the most consistent smokes ever, IMO. from a domestic perspective, i've always appreciated the LGC torpedo #1 and, if rested for at least a few months, are pretty consistent.
