Ashton VSG vs Padron Anni. 64- Super Premium Face Off

So I am looking at buying a box or half box of a real nice cigar...

If you were serious about buying a box of one or the other, why not a half box of both? Then you get to live with both vitolas for a little while, and make up your mind for a much larger purchase later on :D

If you do the Padron's in any shape/form, I'd recommend going maduro :dr There's a richness to PAM's that's distinct to me...

Either way, you're coming out on top with this purchase!

Personally, the way I see it, go with the Padrons. I've got a few, and I was gifted an exceptional '64 for New Years (you know the story, Trent) and I would go with those. Cigars don't get much better than that!

I agree with Dave and buy both. Maybe half a box of each? I can do a box split if you like (Padron preferred) Trent :D

I have thought about half a box of each. I may have to hold off though and end up going darkside- there is a deal going on right now that I'm not sure I can refuse.

I need to get my next couple of paychecks in and see how much I am willing to spend and then see what goes down.

If I decide to do a half box of each I will let anyone who is interested know and we can do a box split!

I'm going to go against the trend here and recommend the Ashton over the Padron. Based upon the cigars that I've smoked, I find the Ashton VSG to be smoother, richer, and more flavorful than the Padron Anniversary.

Do make sure you throw in some Tres Mystiques! They are great short smokes. :)

It is foolish to buy anything before you've tried 'em, IMHO. Get a sample of the cigars you're thinking of buying first.

No I have not- waiting for my friend to get me some cash that he owes me- and today he is in Galveston

Fivers from where? I'd normally just head on down to Serious...I think I will go down there, grab a VSG, Anni, Tat Havana VI and maybe one other choice...I know it'd be better to sample more than one of each...oh...but you are saying to buy five of a couple of different super premiums and have a variety. Genius- may go with that at some point---still contemplating the dark side.

I say a fiver so you know what you're getting and aren't putting to chance getting a bad stick and making your decision based on that.

Well I don't know what you had in mind from this thread but here is my opinion of these two cigars VSG vs PAM.

I pick the PAM because I like it better than the PAN mostly because when you compare the PAN to the PAM the PAM wins on texture and richness for me. The PAM is more creamy with a darker more robust flavor and for comparison to the VSG is going to be a closer comparision.

VSG - I have a box of the Tres Mystiques and this is my opinion of them so far (these are probably around 1.5-2.5 years old. This is a powerhouse of a cigar this little guy can kick yo !@#. Heavy on the vitamin N and even heavier on the overwhelming robust flavor. It has a really long finish and if you like em strong buy the VSG.

PAM - Though I haven't had the Pricipe yet I have had several of this line and I have been impressed in each case with the impecable construction and consistancy of the padron anni's. I have said this before the PAM's are so consistant they could be considered boring. Basically you know what your getting and it's good, really good. This cigar is every bit as strong as the VSG when you are talking about vitamin N. The flavor side is something else though, the PAM is creamy and rich with chocolate vanilla notes. The PAM is full flavored without a hint of harshness.

The Tres Mystique is the fullest flavored of the VSG line that I've had and is a great smoke. In terms of food the VSG would be the Texas state chili cookoff winner while the PAM would be a perfectly prepared ribeye at your favorite steakhouse. Both are great but not at all simular.
