Okay I'm gonna make an ashtray....so I would like some help.

What's the pro's and Cons of your ashtrays?
this will help my design ideas...

how big?
How deep?
How many cigar rests?
Made from what?

Thanks for the help Folks!!!

I say do a search online for ashtrays and find one that appeals to you, then duplicate it and maybe add your own personal twist/style to it.

You need one with big holders, like the Stinky.

You need one that will hold a lot like the Stinky.

I like the style of the Stinky, the more expensive ashtrays are just to small or not designed the right way.

well I plan on making several to experiment...I'll start with wood, then try some cast concrete, then maybe some fused glass, or kiln fired ceramic.

:r Really Richard....Don't hold back!!!! Tell us what you really think of the Stinkys!!!!!

I think they are the best thought out and designed ashtrays on the market. Not only because I know him, but because I use them and gift them whenever I see friends that need them.

Hey I have some materials you need to look at. (Some metal pieces for the bottom possibly. I'll get a picture.)

I've also been working on my own ideas for building some ash trays. I don't have time right now, but I'll post back later.

Ok, check this out. My father in law brought these home from work. They were throwing them out in the trash and he nabbed them first. It's 6 1/2 inches in diameter and the tray is about a half inch deep. I was going to get some wood and then use the router to cut out a circle using these as the bottom liner. They are just plain metal, so they would need painted or something done to them first. I guess the natural color might go well with some woods or designs.

I was also thinking of getting a router bit like THIS. They make different diameters, but with a 3/4" or 1", you could route out rests for cigars and make a cutout for ash.

Not sure if a plain wood bottom would look bad over time or not. They would most likely need a liner. But, I usually don't butt out my cigars, so the burning portion never touches the ash tray.

Hopefully that helps with your ideas.
