B&M Getting Angry AT YOU?

Alpha Buttcrack
So today while I was in the mall with my ol lady I wandered over to the local Tinder Box to see what was new. Everything appeared to be the same ol same ol....Opus X's, Padrons, San Cristobals.... wait what's this?
I see some Montecristo Series Vino Cabernet? I ask the guy working "what are these, and how long have they been in?" He replies "about a month." He tells me they are supposed to be good with a glass of Cabernet? I says "well, I guess I better try one since I've never had one before." As I reach in and pull one out, the one underneath is covered with white furry stuff? I says whoah man these things are covered with mold. He runs over and has a looksie. He digs one out and says this isn't mold, this is........(and he draws a blank). I says, "plume?" He goes "yeah, that's what it is!"

Anyway, I held up the cigar and showed him how mold has little fingers that reach out and is splotchy. The feet were ate up with the fuzzy. I also showed him how wet and squishy the sticks were. He says "geez, the boss would cut your throat if he saw you doing that!"

He was pretty upset with me at this point and I felt like he was directing me out of the store. Nobody else was in there so it wasn't like I was making a scene or throwing him under the bus.

Have you ever had someone get pissed off at you for pointing out the obvious?

This is all too common.
There was a thread recently about a salesperson who got angry (or was possibly just indifferent) to a BOTL pointing out beetles.

I tend not to even point stuff out unless I am tight with the owner. The way I see it, if the owner is worth his salt he'd be keeping an eye on his product. If you find mold it means he either doesn't give a crap or doesn't know any better (and doesn't give a crap).

This is becoming the typical experience lately...I wonder what's going on out there in B&M world? Too many bean counters running cigar shops?

You mean apart from my wife?

This is why I usually don't point out mold, or other problems. I was at a cigar shop in Seattle a few months ago and I noticed a stick covered with mold and I just kept on going, because I didn't want to hear the "PLUME" speal.

A few months ago an old lady ran into my car while it was parked at the church. I was about ten feet away and watched her do it.
She got out of the car and unleashed a torrent of obscenity on me that was borderline genius. The old girl had game. :r
When she stopped to draw a breath, I suggested that maybe I should be the one who was angry being she just ran into my car and tore my ass up for it.
Pointing out the obvious didn't have a very calming effect. :r
I really wasn't mad at all though. When she went for her next breath I told her I'd be up on the hill talking to the folks and she could catch up with me there once she played out.
She calmed down about two weeks later.

Never have that problem at my B&M. We go out of our way to make sure the customer gets the best smoking experience possible. Don't know what this guy's problem is.

That's too funny. I always crack up when I see people pulling out of church cursing and screaming and flipping people off because they can not get out of the parking lot fast enough. Kind of defeats the purpose IMHO.:r

I treat all my customers like that and then I call them a f@#k.

I kid, seriously that's some rank customer service.

I tell them it adds a certain flavor that is indescribable and it will be the best smoke they ever had.

Or, The humidity just allows for the hair follicles to mature, therefore causing hair growth and albino coloration of the area. (Watch out for the pink eyes to pop out of the band.) There is a lot of chemistry involved but it gets kind of hairy when you get into it.

I kid. I kid. Sounds like another misinformed employee. BM owners should educate their employees on the product but then again some BM owners just want to see the bottom line total. :2

Sorry to hear it, Hal. That's some pretty garbage customer service.

Ah cool Darrell; I thought I was the only one to get that treatment. ;)

Yeah, that is crap if the guy can't realize it is mold. Something tells me he doesn't know the product and figures all cigars should be "moist". Yuck!
