Beetles at the B&M

I just wanted to share a scary B&M discovery............

Last night after dinner I stopped at Tobacco Road in Milford, CT just to do some window shopping. As soon as I walked in the humidor I could feel it was really warm in there. So, I browse around for a minute and notice a hole in a Trinidad cigar. My brother was with me so I showed him my discovery. He starts looking closer and grabs a Rocky Patel that had 5 holes in it and A LIVE BEETLE crawling under the cello. I have heard beetle stories and have seen pictures of beetle damage but never experienced beetles first hand. So, we walk out of the humi, tell the clerk about the damage to the cigars and beetles, and honestly the guy could care less. With the amount of cigars we saw with holes I would say in a day or two most of the sticks there will be ruined. I was shocked to see beetles in the first place, but the lack of concern for the inventory was even more shocking. So..just a heads up for New Haven/Milford CT area gorillas....stay away from Tobacco Road.

Ouch I've passed by there plenty of times at work and almost stopped. Glad I didn't now, thanks for the heads up. :hn

Kinda hard to believe they would have such a hohum attitude about it. I guess they have more money than brains.:tg

I would never by anything from those guys. They have no concern for anything they sell. When I lived in CT. I kept my distance from their store. :2

I handed the clerk the cigar with the beetle and the guy rang it up like I was going to buy it.....

Geez, what a horror story!

I'd have a strong inclination to go outside, strip naked and shake out my clothes

You'd think B&M owners would know better than to keep their humidors so warm.

There was one B&M in particular here in Columbus, entering the the humidor of which was like walking into a jungle. I couldn't spend more than a minute or two inside without breaking a sweat. In one instance I did in fact find a beetle, brought the cigar to the clerk who promptly smashed it on the counter with his fist.

This store is no longer there, but I'd credit that to the advent of the statewide smoking ban, more so than the tropical nature of his humidor.

My favorite B&M has had problems on and off with beetles. I still go there, but I inspect and tap every cigar and freeze anything I get from him. Been lucky so far.
