In Beijing for business and had just enough time to trot past the cigar bar in the St. Regis. Unfortunately, like many places in Beijing, the St. Regis is closed for renovation to get ready for the Olympics. The LCdH on the main floor is closed, but the small cigar bar on the third floor remains open, probably for the benefit of the permanent residents.
There is a glass-top display humidor on the counter inside the door that shows the selection.
The cigars in this humidor are in horrible shape, with torn wrappers and ragged feet. Based on that, I almost walked out.
I did, however, settle into the deep cushions of the lounge and order what I hoped would be a good pairing: a Monte 3 and a HC 7 straight up.
Alas, all too soon they were both but a fond memory.
The good news is that there is a nicer cigar bar at the Grand Hyatt a mile or so down the road.
