bic or zippo?

well i know that this is a big NONO, but the other night, i went and spent some time with a couple of friends and smoked a couple cigars, well everybody left and there where only 3 of us left, well we went to light up a couple of smokes and my lighter ran out of fuel, there where no matches aorund that wecould find and the only thing that we had was my bic, that i use to light my cigarette's and my friends zippo, that she use's to light her cigarette's. so we ended up using my bic to light the smokes to avoid that zippo fuel.
so i was wondering, what should i have used? my bic or her zippo?
i know that it's the lesser of two evils but i didn't really know what to do

IMO it's really not all that crucial. I use butane because it's easiest to light and get an even light. I wouldn't care if I had to use a Zippo or Bic if need be.

I have used a Zippo before to light cigars and really didn't notice anything, but I also used the black can zippo fuel which is suppossed to have removed the crap that can ruin a cigar. So just depends on what fuel was in the zippo. I have also used a bic before as well and didn't notice anything either.

IMO it really does not matter.
A soft flame is a soft flame regardless of the source.
However if using the zippo I always let it burn for about 30 seconds before lighting with it. I have found that this eliminates the fluid and the only thing burning is the wick.

People say to aviod the zippo because of the fuel fumes, but what's wrong with a bic? Any butane lighter should work well, including a bic.

I am not the most experienced cigar smoker but from my own test I could not tell a difference between matches, zippo, or a bic.

zippos smell.
nothing wrong with a bic though.

Bic is fine, Zippo is a no no. Only thing equal to or worse than a Zippo is a Citronella Candle or any candle for that matter...

According to Zippo you need to let the flame burn for a while to get rid of the odour, then it should be fine.

I've never had a problem with a Zippo, and that's my primary lighting method. I choose Zippo over my butanes I have sitting by my humidor.

Edit: And this may be purely coincidental, but I've experience a dramatic improvement in cigar burning since I've been using the Zippo..

in a pinch, I will use anything available to get a good smoke going. However, if given the option I would use the BIC first as they "seem" to burn cleaner, and by seem, I mean by my own personal, subjective guess.

hmmmm, intresting, thanks guys, i didn't know that you should let a zippo burn for a while to get rid of the fume's. thanks again

I've used everything from industrial torches, to butane, to bics to zippos and I can't tell a difference

The first cigar I had was with a torch lighter, and the next was lit with a BIC and honestly, I could tell no difference. I may have to pickup something to give my zippo a try....
