Bidding at the devil site!

Whats going on at the devil site? I bid on some rp 2nds annd no only got outbid, but the winning bid was $10 over the CI catalog price. I have seen this happen several times lately. Anyone else notice?

Auctions are going incredibly high on Cbid lately. I followed it pretty closely this week and about 80% of the auctions I followed went at or higher than CI price.

Its The Mentality That Once You Bid On Something You Have To Have It. It Almost Becomes A Contest. Then As You Get Outbid You Say To Yourself "its Only A Few More Dollars And I Really Want Them". It's Human Nature That Once You Want Something It Consumes You Until You Get It, It Is Almost As If You Have Blinders On And Aren't Thinking Rationally.

Ya I bid on some Perdomo Habano maduro's and got outbid so I just ordered them from cigar place and got them cheaper with free shipping! Oh well must be a bunch of new bidders.

Yeah I've seen it many a times, I don't know why I think people get soo caught up in bidding that they don't research the price and what to bid. The most I'll bid is so with shipping it comes out to the CI price without shipping. All I get then is free shipping and its not that great of a deal but that's why its the devil site. (ohh I can save 6 bucks) and the worst (I want to win at least one so I'll bid on 3 ...... forget to watch, check after auction ends, you wont them all! Now you have to buy 3 times what you wanted, at least I find myself in this position almost every time I go to that Damned site. :r

I have always wondered if they employ people to sit around and bit the prices up. Just a thought. I seriously doubt they would do that, but i have seen some weird stuff happen with some sticks there.

missed one... did you capitalize the first letter of each word on purpose? Is this a test?

If that is the case, they would have serious legal issues.

No, no test. I started typing and by the time I was in the middle of my paragraph I noticed that my "caps lock" was on. I was so engrossed in myu thoughts I never looked up to see what I was typing. So instead of correcting the entire thing I just kept typing in all caps. When I submitted the post, the paragraph corrected itself automatically and didn't let it go through in all caps. So what you see is how it was edited by the computer. Sorry, I read it myself and it made it hard with the first words being capitalized. Just consider it your brain warm-up for the day. :tu

In hind sight, and after typing this, it may have been easier just to erase the original 2 sentences, that were all caps, and just start over. :D

people bid like this often, its how the site makes money...

I just go there, put in a price I can live with, and check it in a few days... I bid on stuff very rarely these days, though. :tu

There are many good thoughts here and I heartily agree its human nature to get caught up and lately there has been a high percentage of lots going for too much.

As an aside, doesn't it make more sense on these sites not to bid until the final 10 minutes, by putting in a max bid you are automatically uping the bids against those who want them as well.

Just a thought as I find most people aren't there as the lots expire and if the price is where you are comfortable you shoot that bid in at the last minute.

Just seems like bidding against yourself when you set the max bid and kind of falling into their hands...

It happens all the time at cattle auctions. They're called "rafter bids" because the auctioneer points up towards the back of the bleachers like they've got a bid from someone sitting up there. It's pretty funny to watch but the "clueless" pay a horrible price. It was very interesting to study cattle auctions and buyer's behaviour when I used to spend a lot of time going to auctions.

I've not bidded on anything in quite a while until last week. I took a week and bought things I've been wanting to try or get all in one big buy. I did go over on a few things, but there was some other stuff I got very cheap and about 1/5th of the MSRP price. All in all, I got about 50+ cigars for $215 or less than $4/cigar, so it worked out for me pretty well. Expecting the box from UPS tomorrow (too bad they don't run on sunday, cause in class all day tomorrow and won't get to open it till about 5pm!)

I thought the same thing at first, and that logic is spot on for most auction sites, but in my experience bidding early and using auto-bid is better for cbid.

The reason being there are (often) many lots of the same item. Lets say there are 5 lots, and the most you want to pay for a lot is $20. If you wait until the auction is almost over, and there are already 5 people with $20 bids, you cannot pick it up for your price. If you bid early, and auto-bid carried your bid up to $20 for you AND nobody wants to pay more than $20, you get it.

Similarly, if you were the first to set your auto-bid for $20, and 4 other people bid it up to $23, you still get the $20 price because you locked in early, and there weren't enough people (5) willing to pay over your price.
