Birth announcement cigar thoughts...

Evolving Lead Gorilla
So my wife will deliver twins soon and being the proud daddy-to-be I want to hand out cigars afterwards. Instead of buying the cigars with the "It's a..." printed on the cello I've got an idea that I would like get some thoughts on.

I don't want to be cheap but I don't want to be extravagant either because I know that some of the cigars I hand out might go to waste. So I'm thinking about Oliva V Lanceros for the cigar as they fit the bill price-wise and most people seem to enjoy them. Then tying a little piece of pink ribbon around the cigar attached to a small card with the girl's names on it. Or I could have bands printed with their names on them that I can attach to the cigars myself.

Any thoughts or other ideas that some of you may have used would be appreciated. :)

How about Taboo SFBC lancero's?

Might go a little easier on the uninitiated smokers than Olivia V's would. Plus - Rob has a great deal going on them right now under the 'Deal of the Day'.

BTW - CONGRATULATIONS BRO!!!

Congrats.

Personally I think you should hand out something in tubes so they can be taken home and smoked without much risk of damage.

First and foremost, congrats, all the health and happiness in the world to you and your family.

A guy in my grad class just went through this. He is a part time smoker (smokes the good stuff when we go to cigar bar or at my house..lol), and wanted to buy a box to hand out on his first child's birth. My problem with spending any medium to large amount is that most, and I have seen it here in the office, toss them in the garbage, its such a waste, as a cigar smoker. Fathers who smoke cigars have the best intentions in the world, but the sad part is, if you pass a cigar to a non-cigar smoker, its garbage-bound.

That is unless, you are specifically passing them out to cigar smokers. Told my bud, buy a box of crap, as he admitted he'd be passing them out to mostly non-smokers, and we'd partake in a fine CC, which we did, to celebrate. He was going to spend like over a hundred on a box, glad he did not, passed out some crap he got for like 30-40 bucks.

Just my 2 cents, all the best bud.

I have had 2 birth cigars. The first one was total crap. The second one was so good it convinced me to become a cigar smoker.

So I think it is worth the risk to spread the love. Tell them they are nice cigars and if they don't want to personally smoke them to give them to someone who will.

Can't help ya with the suggestion on which stogie but I wanted to suggest something else. If you're concerned with them being thrown in the trash why not simply ask, "Do ya smoke, would you like a cigar!?" as you hand each out. I guarantee the larger majority of people that will trash it will just say, "Oh no thanks but congrats" or something like that. I think it's better then saying "It's a boy! Have a cigar!" and giving to someone where they would feel awkward not to take it.

Eh, I dunno... just a suggestion :) I'm married but don't have kids so I've never actually been in that situation.

Congrats on the twins! Too bad it's not triplets, you could get some Culebras! Umm... TRicker mentioned that Havana Premium in Albany, NY will do custom bands, might want to check that out! :ss

Congrats on the twins!

WAY back on the first of Sept (this year) when my Third child arrived, this is what I did (having bought good stuff to be wasted by the 'masses' twice.

I bought a box of Padron 3000 maduro to hand out to those that specifically wanted a real stick (since they are a staple, any leftover can be a 'constant celebratory smoke' til the box is empty). Quality, but affordable, and not a xXx power ranger for the uninitiated... :r.

To those that did not smoke, I bought a $10 box of El Bubble (bubble gum cigars). This way, if they don't smoke they still get a 'cigar' and you don't have your money thrown away. Here is a link:

They are $15 here, but I got them at a 'cigarette store' for $10. They can usually be found in hospital gift shops or flower shops as well.

Basically, When people came to visit the new one, I knew for the most part which a person should get - for a couple I was unsure of, I asked if they wanted bubblegum or real...

First off, CONGRATS!!!:bl
When my son was born back in 1996, I handed out Dunhills because that is my wifes favorite smoke. Still is. I know that it pained me when my mom and step mom asked me for one so they could have a momento. But what do you do. I am still glad that I bought a good cigar for people to share in. The fact that some of them got 'wasted' wasn't enough to make me want to smoke a cheap cigar if I happened to smoke one with someone who wanted to smoke right away! Go good. This isn't an everyday occurence! Thank goodness...:ss

Congrats!:bl

I'm with Costa on this one. When my niece was born, I was the one that bought the cigars. I got good ones for me and my brother. But I got some decent ones for my dad and the baby's dad since I knew they would waste them. The B&M also had bands that "It's a girl" printed on them to put on any cigar.

I REALLY like that idea!

Congrats! I bought mine from the Cigar Factory Outlet http://www.thecigarfo.com/ I bought a wheel of the blend #7 for about 75 cents a stick. I made my own bands in gimp and used liquid pectin to secure the paper bands. They looked great people liked them and I don't feel bad about the ones still sitting out unhumidified on my co-workers desks. If you have BOTL friends you want to give good cigars to just double band them with your custom band.

Thanks for all the relies and well wishes. Ring guage coming to all of you. I think I'm gonna go with the box of good cigars and box of bubble gum cigars option along with having some bands printed.

That's why I love this place...you guys are much smarter than me.

Congrats. I happen to be a twin, you are in for a treat!!!! I gave out Monte's for when my son was born last year. I found out though that not everyone appreciated cigars like I did. weeks later, I saw the stogies sitting on my co workers desks collecting dust. So I politley removed them without them noticing and smoked them myself!

Congratulations on the twins. I’m sure this is an experience you and your wife will enjoy.

I always wished we would have twins when we were having kids, but now I have twin granddaughters that will be arriving in a couple of weeks.
I think the cigars / bubble gum sounds like a great idea, and I might have to take that project on myself.

Fuente 8-9-8. You can even get them with the "It's a..." cellophane. You can get a box for less than a c-note. Super quality at an excellent price.

FWIW, I would have gone with the bubble gum option too. I just couldn't read this last post and not reply. Nice work Scottw. You could work this angle too, Rizzle. :r

Rev.

:tpd: That sounds good to me, too. Get a box of whatever you know to be a good but mild/medium smoke that you enjoy to pass out to those who want one. The rest you can keep! :D

Also,

:bl CONGRATULATIONS!!! :bl

Congratulations and nothing but the best of wishes for you and yours . I've always handed out Arturo Fuente Brevas with the appropriate "It's a" cello on them . Not expensive and a real good smaller cigar . But I do only hand them out to those that I know will smoke them and I still have some that are now 8 and 5 years old .
