Boveda One Step ???

Good morning fellow BOTL. I have a question regarding the Boveda One Step Calibration Packs. I purchased one of these along with my new digital hygrometer. I read the directions, open the pouch, placed my hygrometer into the bag and resealed. I was happy at first because it was reading 70% RH (around 75 degrees in the house), but after waking up this morning, it is reading 67% RH (around 71 degrees in the house now). Should I be concern? Is my hygrometer just off my 8%? Or did I some how just mess up the "one step process".

keep the temp as close as you can to 70 degrees. also remember that fluctuatingtemps will effect readings, so try to keep the temp constant.
do a 72 hour test. then do another 72 hour test to double check. after 2 72 hour tests, you will have the correct results.

How do you get a difference of 8%? Looks to only be a difference of 3% to me.
 
The same thing happened to me. What I did was put that calibration bag with the hygro in it, inside an air tight tupperware container, not too big though. After 24 hours, it read 70%, and after 12 more hours it read 71%. So I adjusted it +4%. I then checked it with the salt test and it read 76% after 12 hours so I was happy.
 
I tried out a boveda one step kit a few weeks ago. My hygrometers were all already calibrated, I just wanted to experience the kit, ya know? My curiosity got the best of me. :)
After 48 hours it still hadn't leveled off, it was still climbing very slowly.
I'm pretty patient, but I really don't want to wait for 3 days, make my adjustment, then wait 3 more days to double check. That's a little ridiculous to me. No, that's a lot ridiculous to me.
I normally use non-iodized salt (the sodium iodide in iodized table salt causes it to yield a lower RH%age) in a big Sobe bottle cap and an oust fan in a gallon ziplock bag.
That takes four or five hours. I can have a double check in the same day.
I really didn't have any confidence in the one-step kit after I saw how slowly it reacted. It made me think the packet was out of juice before I got it because I couldn't imagine someone would invent and market something that worked so poorly.
I seldom make negative comments about any product, but the Boveda One Step Kit earned two big thumbs down from me.

I have three free ones I got this week with new hygrometers. If anyone wants to torture themselves with them and form an opinion to share, I'll be happy to send them to you. :)

Ok, here are the results that I've came up with. I place the entire package with my hygro into a small tuperware container. After almost another 24 hours, with the container in a loctation that I feel the tempature was the most stable, my hgro still reads 69%.

I'm going to take my hygro and adjust it the 6 degrees to set it at 75% and then place in my humi along side of my 65% Hearthfelt RH beads and my 6 dollar walmart hygro and see what it says.

FYI...my walmart hygro has been reading a steading 65% every since I introduced the beads. :tu
 
If you're looking for another hygro at some point, I'd suggest the Caliber III. I have 2 and they read the exact same for humidity. Off by about 1 degree temp wise though. One is several years old and one is brand new. Never salt tested, but I figure they are pretty accurate. They are not adjustable but say they are +/- 1% from the factory.

I have to disagree with this, only from what im experiencing... My temp in my house flux. from 70-74.. and with this flux... it never has an outcome on my humidity... my humidity remain the same... :tu

You gotta remember the digital is not perfect and when you are doing these cali. test the result is what you get.. other words dont freak out if you are off by a certain number of % this is the whole purpose of a cali. test / salt test... to see how for off or close your hygro. is reading... :ss

I find that it does not take anywhere near 36 hrs for the Humidipak Kit to work. If I put a hygrometer in the bag, I usually put the kit with the hygro in another zip lock (normal freezer zip lock bag). I take the reading with the first 12 hrs or so, then I adjust if necessary and check again the next day. It may not workin 3 or 4 hrs, but I have never had to wait 36 hrs.
