Building a cabinet humi

RenoB

Back from Shack :(
I've searched the archives like a good noob but can't find what I'm looking for. Many of the posts seem to encourage "visualizing" what you want and then building it.

Well, I would never get away with that

I need to review plans, get ideas and have something to build from (yeah, I'm an engineer :s ). But this planning is 90% of the fun.

What wisdom can the gorillas here impart? Plans, links, ideas would all be appreciated.

You;re probably right, I was feeling pretty ambitious there for a moment. Thanks for the reality check :gn

It's not that tough man...

Build a simple cabinet

Line it with 1/4" to 3/8" spanish cedar, build some lattice shelves, and add a CigarOasis XL AC powered humidification unit...

Add some of your favorite cigars, and remember the prime directive...

How ever much humi-space you think you need..... TRIPLE IT!

You're an engineer, you can figure it out, it ain't rocket surgery. Pm if you have any unanswerable questions...

Totally Agree.
May not be a bad idea to add a few more mulitpliers to that.

Once you build it and it works - send the plans out so that those of us gorillas who haven't graduated to the use of simple tools can put one together. :D

I too am building a cabinet humidor. I already have all the quartersawn white oak pieces cut to final dimensions and waiting to be assembled. Here in Florida it has been way too humid for me to work on it in my garage workshop, but now that the weather has started to change I can resume work when I return from vacation around 11/20. I found plans at Rockler for exactly what I was looking for, an antique icebox. When finished it will be about 4 feet wide by two feet deep by 4 feet tall. I think it will hold a few boxes of cigars. :D

Here is what it will look like

Might want to send MattK a pm or email. He built his own. Hes not very active here anymore though.

I gave up trying to find good plans.I used to be an engineer and gave that up too. Your best bet is to buy one already built. By the time you put the time and money into it youve spent a small fortune..If you use good materials..and then you biuld something half as good..I just leave it up to the pro's.

Best thing is to have a best friend who is a pro.
Any pro's out there want to become my best friend?

If you opt. out for a wine cooler, you would do very well to get one of the thermoelectric aka. peltier units. In fact, I think that is the only way to go.

If you are going to make it yourself, once again---go thermoelectric.

If the ambient temp. in the room is not so high, a regular wine cooler can be OK. But, if your room temp. is around 100 deg. all summer like mine, it will cycle too often for best storage. The hum. will drop with each cycle.
