Buying sticks on eBay.

Has anyone picked up any "rare bands" with unconsumable tobacco with them on eBay? I have seen tons for sale and all sellers have great feedback. I wanted to get some info from the jungle.

I don't think i'd trust cigar sellers on Ebay. Too many variables. Stick to vendors who are recommended (by other gorillas).

:tpd: Although the Glass Top Cohibas are quite tempting for the novelty if they weren't trying to charge so much. Definitely not worth it for the taste. You could probably find a good deal, but there's a much better chance you will get taken for a ride.

I can understand that, but these sellers would not have great feedback if they were selling dog rockets.

That's true. If the seller has good feedback, and lots of it. If the deal is right, why not. Feedback would have to be impecable though. My:2

Why take the chance? You can't complain about the tobacco and there is no recourse if they are dry or damaged. Not worth the risk. I'd rather buy from the WTS section. Or post in the WTB area.

If you bid on cigars on Ebay. Send your payment thru snail mail, that way you have his addy. And then only with sellers within a couple hours drive away. This way if the seller screws you, you can hunt him down and :bx.

LOL, I have the best bank in the world. If the guy screwed me, I'd just get my money back. :tu:tu

Most of the Ebay vendors have good feedback because most of the people that would actualy buy on Ebay don't know enough about cigars to know they are buying fakes. And yes, high end NC's are often counterfited, Opus X would be the best example because vendors can often get $40.00 or more per stick. IMHO you are taking a big risk buying and "Cigar Bands" from anyone on Ebay. As for vendors that accept Paypal I think that paypal has a no tobacco policy which would mean that you couldn't buy from any vendor using their service.

I posted this asking after I had already won a bid on eBay. I only paid $1 over MSRP on the sticks. I asked this guy for his home address and name, he provided both. I referenced his eBay name on all the cigar boards as well as his real name. I figured that if he had hoodwinked some brothers, than they would have dimed him out BIG. I read all of his feedbacks and they were flawless except for one, which seemed to be an issue with the buyer and not the seller.

I also asked him if they were 100% intact in factory cello he assured me they were and guaranteed my satisfaction. He said that he sells a lot of Opus and keeps them at 65/65 in his wine cooler in CT. He seemed like a stand up guy, and if I loose my money then I will deal with it. We all make mistakes, lets hope that I did not. :D

You are quite right. We had previously used PayPal for non-tobacco sales but someone in their compliance department saw our website and shut down our account, no ifs, ands or buts... Locked up about 10k in funds for 3 months before returning the money even though we NEVER accepted PayPal for any Tobacco transactions.

Just know if you deal with a vendor selling "bands" using PayPal, if anything goes wrong you will get NO help from PayPal and risk having your account shut down.

Caveat Emptor!
