Origin: Nicaragua
Length: 5 5/8
Ring Gauge: 54
Wrapper: Nicaragua
Filler: Nicaragua
Torched this lovely stick 8 days after arrival. Clipped a good part of this triple capped head (verging on too much). The pre-light draw almost kept me from lighting this cigar. So good. Toasted the foot and found the 54 ring gauge easy to light. The first draw almost made me drop the stick. Monster pepper and spice. More than any other cigar i've had. Wow. This is going to be interesting.
At the .5 inch mark, the pepper mellows nicely. The ash is burning white at the full inch. Lots of zesty flavor in this, but the pepper is mellowed away. 2/3 the body goes from mild/medium to medium full but doesn't stay.
At the halfway point the cigar does a rice krispy snap, crackle, pop and I wonder if I am smoking a beetle or fly neatly rolled into the cigar. a few puffs later and a notice a tiny crack in the wrapper. A couple more puffs and the crack becomes a canyon. Grrrr... overhumidfied, this stick must be rolled fairly loose, because the draw was fantastic.
The final third had a strange taste I couldn't identify. It wasn't bad, but I almost put the cigar out. I let it cool a bit thinking I had been smoking it too fast. The odd flavor continued, but wasn't detracting. I also noticed the flavor was a bit creamier.
Summation: I can see why some like this as a breakfast cigar, but I like it for a relaxed evening stick. It's too bad they are discontinuing this size with the release of the 3 smaller sizes, but I'm looking forward to trying each of them. I think I'll drybox them before smoking though as this stick was obviously too wet for my tastes. I'd definitely smoke this again and could see it in regular rotation in my humi if buy before they are all gone.
Overall rating 8.2.
