Cabinet Humi suggestions

I have the Verona, got it for far less than the advertised price from the Devil. I haven't seen it close to what I scored it for recently. :hn

Be aware you are going to need a ton of beads for it, and be patient with the seasoning, it will take damn near a week. :tu

Any questions, feel free to PM me.

If you can swing the money, I would highly recomend the Aristocrat. While I've never personaly owned one, I have never heard a negative comment about them. Said to be the "Cadilac of cabnit humis"

Do you think a cab like that can run off of beads (assuming I use a lot)? I was looking at that electronic Oasis unit because I was skepital of a setup with beads.

I have the Verona, but I use an Avallo Accumonitor with two canisters. IMO beads would work better then an electric Oasis unit because you can put some up top and some in the bottom. If you use an Oasis, the humidity in the humidor may vary significantly from the top to bottom. I don't known if they have a remote humidity sensor, but that is important.

This mostly refers to the Verona, since this humidor has the drawers in the middle. Others, without the drawers, or with open shelves may work better with an Oasis.

I have a Avallo and love it. Here is one that looks something like what you are looking at.

You can contact RonC on here and let him know exactly what you are looking for. If you go the other way he does have his Accumonitor that comes in these on special in the retailer section. That thing is great, you just press what humidity you want and close the doors :tu

I have the tower of power and I love it. I use about three pounds of beads and a cigar oasis. I picked it up on c-bid for about half of its listed retail.

I had that exact tower for a year and a half before I got my aristocrat. I used 2 pounds of beads and 4 oust fans. I spread the beads throughout in small dishes. I tried to use the Oasis in the beginning with no beads or oust fans, but it took up alot of room and the humidity had too much range from top to bottom. I compensated by putting beads at the top to get the humidity up and that worked well, but in the end, the bulky Oasis got taken out and I just used beads and the oust fans. I had the tower with the drawers, was great for storing singles. I would probably still have the tower, but I ran out of space in it and I needed a temp cooled humidor for this hot TX weather.

(sorry for the long post, just trying to help. Send me a PM if you have any other questions) :)

Do you have any recommendations on where the fans are positioned? What kind of fans of these?

Don't do it. The money you spend on the cabinet is nothing compared to the cost of filling it, and you will feel compelled to fill it to the very brim. Then you will spend hours worring about the humidity and temp. until you wind up frazzeled and broke. You just thought the slope was steep! :r

I put the cigar oasis in the very bottom, and put beads on the upper shelves along with a few oust fans on the upper shelves.I use the 65% beads. The humidity is a solid 62-64% through the whole cabinet.

I was caught somewhere on the slope by the same thought. I bought a Chancellor cabinet humidor from the devil site and all I want to do is fill it! I use a Hydra and beads in it and it keeps the humidity perfect. With a little patience, you can get a cabinet for a lot less the retail on the devil site. Shipping usually is around $200.

I've been thinking about getting a cabinet humidor and thought it be best to ask for everyone's advice first.

I was considering something like http://www.cigarsinternational.com/prodDisp.asp?item=M-HUM2000&cat=10 with http://www.cigarsinternational.com/prodDisp.asp?item=M-COH3000&cat=10.

I've gotten recommendations for http://www.aristocrathumidors.com/ but that might be a bit out of my price range. Any suggestions or input appreciated.

An Aristocrat may not be that far out of your price range. The Cabinet you link to is $800 and the cigar oasis is $200. Bob has a plus 40 cabinet that is not as tall as the cabinet you are looking at but is deeper for $1349 with the set and forget included. One singles drawer will easily hold 200 to 300 cigars with a box capacity of at least 40 boxes. If you delete one of the singles drawers he will credit you $125. It might be worth while to give him a call before you buy a cabinet. His work is second to none and the end result is heirloom furniture quality. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. :)

I'm a big Aristocrat fan, so I'l get that out of the way upfront. Its a one time purchase, and if you buy an Aristocrat you'll never regret it.

Yes, I know a cabinet can run just on beads. I have around 2 lbs. spread throughout my cabinet and it holds around 64% on top and 61% on the bottom. I used the large Hydra for a few weeks (it really helped speed up the seasoning) but it was too loud and too much hassle. I was weary at first, but the beads do just fine. :tu

Here is an old pic I found, not near capicity at this time, but that changed lol. You can see the fans and the small dishes of beads. You will also notice down in the bottom I put trays down there for more singles. I could not do this with the Oasis down there. I eventually had to remove the trays so I could store more boxes down there. If I remember correctly, I had around 2400 cigars when it was full. Also at the very top on the inside top, there is a round hole, I used this to store beads too since it didnt take up cigar space :ss You can do a search on oust fans here on CS, lots of threads about them, or they have them at target or walmart, just dont use the scent that comes with them lol

OUST fans were fans that were readily available, sadly they were discontinued. They can still be found at some places, but are becoming increasingly harder to find. Lately, people have been having limited success at Home Depot and off of EBay. :tu
