Change of habit

I think my smoking habits are changing. I used to smoke a lot of cigars. Now I find myself smoking much less frequently, but choosing much finer cigars when I do smoke.

I also am enjoying the smokes much more now. I savor them instead of excitedly rushing through them on a journey to smoke everything I can get my hands on. I guess it's quality over quantity now and I can't see myself heading back. I certainly don't think this is a trail to the end of cigar smoking for me, but perhaps it is a permanent change of taste. I can only think that I am finally really finding out what I enjoy about cigars in general and what I want out of any cigar in particular. I have a cabinet full of smokes that I will likely never touch, instead I am just replacing those I really enjoy. I guess I need to start bombing or using the FS section.

Anyone else going through something similar?

I did a very long time ago. Never smoked a ton (meaning everyday), but as the years progressed, it truly became about smoking 2 fantastic cigars slowly then blasting through 5-6.

Never been a "yard-gar" guy, for me, a cigar presents the opportunity to finally stop, sit down, and take it all in for a second. I am embarrassed to say, if not for cigars, I would never stop to take it in, I'd be in perpetual motion to the grave.

Thanks for posting!!!

I was wondering if this was normal. I have been doing the same thing.

I have lost my feeling of "I have to try everything!"

I am really only smoking on the weekends now!

I think you're in phase two of a four phase process.

Phase one: Smoke everything you can get your hands on (and often).
Phase two: Cut down frequency of smokes and only smoke exceptional cigars.
Phase three: Raise frequency of smoking exceptional cigars to phase one rate.
Phase four: Buy way more exceptional cigars than you could ever smoke in a lifetime.

I have already completed phase 4, now I guess I just need to work on phase 3.

I smoke typically 4 to 8 cigars a day.I will add that 3 of those I would consider exceptional(usually, sometimes more of the total).
I'm at the point where I buy the cigars I like, while trying "new to me" cigars every once in a while.
With the deals out there these days,I find this a fairly inexpensive venture:)

I am somewhere between step 3 and 4. I can't afford to buy a ton of premium smokes, but the ones I do buy are $$$.. I have given up on most cheaper smokes, but still have a few in my humidor for backups.

I go through the same thing when the seasons change.

In summer I smoke more frequently, so obviously they can't all be amazing smokes. But in the winter, I smoke way less often so I smoke higher quality cigars.

I like to try to find a top tasting smoke for little money, hence I am always trying something different

I'm right with you on it. I only smoke on the weekends and prefer to smoke the good stuff. :ss Life is too short for yard gars, but I do have some solid, less expensive sticks to handout to non-smokers.
