Cheapest Pepin

Excellent feedback guys, thanks!
Another question: I'm beginning the journey of filling up my new Vinotemp. Do all of Pepin's blends come in a real box? That might be a stupid question, but I want some nice looking boxes in there...just don't wanna break the bank and have to sleep on the couch

I forgot about the 5V Miamis, and I would put them at the top of my list of pepin "Cheapies". I forgot because I have only traded and have not bought a box of these.

I kept my post to "cheapos". If you want to do better, yes I recommend shelling out the money for blues or 8/11s. but again, I centered on the cheapos.

In answer to your question about boxes, the first run of Fumadores at Holts were awful. Uncured wood and foul smelling glue in the joint of the box. They did not affect the cigars, but I couldn't get them out of the box fast enough.

FWIW

OOooohhhh, almost forgot...

5 Vegas Miami are great for the price, especially on sale at cbid/CI

Not gonna be a jawbreaker ring gauge, but again I think they're nicer than the CI yellows.
:tpd: This is one of my favorite smokes, IMHO let them rest for several months and they turn into a much better smoke. The first one I had OTT was so-so, then let them rest and :dr. And all of mine came of off our favorite site, c-bid. :ss

I really like Fumadores from Holts, they are made by Pepin, come in a box, and are around $40 a box of 20.

If we are talking around $60 ish or less, the Pepin 5 Vegas Miami win hands down IMHO. In fact, I like them better than some of the other lines that cost more, such as the Black Label (which I don't find that strong or peppery). It's just one of those blends that satisfies anytime (afternoon or evening etc). Conversely, the CI Pepin Legend's are made with cheap tobacco, the blend is too mild and thin tasting (no richness) and it just never did anything for me regardless of the price. I bought only one box thankfully and most of them were kind of rank tasting (however, some people seem to like them). On the milder side, the Holts Fumadore has much better flavor than the CI Yellow Legend (at least the first run did).

Old Henry's are one of my favorites along with the San Cristobal, Holts Connoisseur, JJ Maduro Sublime, most all Tatuaje's, 601 Habano, Pepin Blue, LHO's, Habano Leon (and many of the other Pepin Cigar King blends, although they priced themselves out of the market unfortunately) and some others. So many good ones :tu.

Below is a must try list (although I realize this is off topic and most don't fall under the noted price list).

These are the best of the best right now if we aren't including Cubans IMO (in no particular order per say because it changes monthly :D):

- JJ Series Maduro Sublime

- Tatuaje West Coast (and the East Coast is not far behind along with many Brown Labels like the Cojonu 2003 and the Havana VI line)

- San Cristobal

- Tatuaje Jibaro No. 1

- The Old Henry

- Camacho Triple Maduro (a recent addition to JBI's top list)

- Pepin 601 Habano

- Holts Connoisseur Bishop

- Pepin 5 Vegas Miami (really love this blend for the price)

- Pepin Blue Label

- Pepin LHO

- Opus X (and a couple other Fuentes)

- Some LFD's (Double Ligero, Litto Gomez etc...)

- JML 1902 (a recent addition to JBI's top list)

- Liga Privada #9 (a recent addition to JBI's top list)

- Custom Chi-town Blend (can't mention the real name, a recent addition to JBI's top list)

- Graycliff Grand Cru (a recent addition to JBI's top list, way over-priced though)

- Some Illusiones

- Many Pepin Cigar King blends (Habano Leon, Hirsh v. Garcia etc..)

- Nic. Heirloom Corojo 99 (corona gorda and churchill especially)

- El Cobre Churchill (the toro wasn't nearly as full)

- Some sizes of the Oliva V

- Some older and new Tropical stuff (old Del Sols, Famous Nic. Corojo, Custom Top Shelf Blue Label to name a few)

I may have missed something, so I reserve the right to edit and add in the future :r !

The Casa Royale and a few others will be on the top of this list shortly once released. :ss

I picked up 3 bundles of the v1 LHOS and still have one aging, great smokes... that being said I just orderd 2 bundles of the v2 lhos.... do yourself a favor and get 'em while you can...

I ordered 4 bundles Monday, smoked 1 OTT, loved it. I just ordered 3 more bundles today. These should age nicely as they are pretty strong OTT. :tu

Agreed, the 5 Vegas Miami is the best Pepin Cheapo. I would then go with the blacks, if you shop around, you'll find them for a good price.

I have some LHO v2 coming so we'll see. This is a large gauge vitola, and something I normally would not smoke, but for the price .. you gotta do what you gotta do.

I'll stand by my assessment of the Yellow labels. I know we all have different tastes, and I'm glad some really like them. I found them almost flavorless, in a gauge size that I'm no fan of. So, Just my :2, but I wouldn't waste the money. For a super cheap Nic puro, I would rather smoke the TNT JDN alts, they are real cheap, got real good Nic tobacco flavor and are pretty consistent.

Ditto, as I said above, I think the Pepin CI Legends are rank without much decent flavor. It really is the only Pepin blend IMO that sucks.

Am I missing something here? $130 for a box of 20 robustos doesn't sound all that cheap to me. LHO or Fumadores are both less than $50

Nah, you got to get them on cbid. You can probably pick up a box for around $50 if you watch. I picked up a box of PC a few months ago for $49.

I actually bid on a box of robustos last night. $70 took it. I stopped at 60

Eh, sometimes you get lucky sometimes you don't. I don't like them enough to pay $70, $60 would have been my limit as well.

This deal ran a week ago on cbid...

49.99 for a bundle of 20, four different sizes.

CBID 5 Vegas Miami auction

I'd bookmark the CI webpage with the product on there, and wait a bit. I'm SURE they'll go on sale at some point, as most of the 5 Vegas stuff does!

Currently enjoying a CI Legends Yellow gifted to me by TRicker. I am really enjoying this cigar. Tons of flavor!

Not all that cheap, but a must try is the Padilla Miama 8/11. Had my first after letting them rest for about 3 months. It was a great smoke and will probably have a box of these coming to my house in the near future. :tu

If you want that same cigar you better pull the trigger quickly, Pepin and Padilla parted ways and the blend will be changing.
