Hello, :tpd: So my Question is I have a Ceder Chest that my Grandfather made 20 years ago and right now it hold my wifes records that she never plays anymore. This is made with 5/8 and is sealed on the out side. I was wondering could I make this into a humi or am I looking for problems. I know I would have to figure out something to seal the top to the bottom and that is not really a problem. For size I can post tomorrow seeing my wife is asleep and it is at the foot of our bed. I can tell you that it hold 4 rows of records. I am without right now and using my lunch box that holds a 6pack. Any help would be great.

Thank You
James

What kind of cedar is it made out of? The spanish cedar in humidors is not the same kind of wood as normal cedar, the smell of which will be imparted to your cigars. Unless you want all of your cigars to taste like cedar than I wouldn't suggest it.

The chest could very possibly be made from red cedar, which I would'nt use. It's great for storing clothes and blankets not cigars. If your in a pinch and need an inexpensive alternative to a humidor, you can probably find everything you need at the grocery store.

An air tight container... tupperware, icechest cooler, steri light, ect....

head to the florist area, pick up a piece of green florist foam.

A gallon of distilled water to soak the foam in and your set.

For under twenty bucks you can have plenty of storage that will work just fine, you can store lots of cigars this way until your ready to upgrade.

I will take a picture and post it tonight when I get home. posting drom my pc phone right now. I am sure u guys are right and it is Red Ceder. Thank you for the replies.

Here is an idea. Buy a big cooler that will fit inside the chest. The cooler will give you a great seal and keep your cigars safe while the chest will cover the "ugly" cooler. Just a thought!

So I was a little wrong about the size it only holds 3 stacks of records LOL. Anyway sorry to say that my Bedroom is not to well lit and I can not get a great picture but I did get a few and post what I have. And thanks for the Ideas. Just need to break down and get another Humi.
