Cigars and the fireplace

This may be a strange question. As someone who does not smoke in the house, partly because I don't want to (three kids plus one more in about a week, don't want the house to smell if we ever try to sell), and partly because my wife might not look as kindly on that as she does the hobby in general, I have wondered if smoking by the fireplace might be acceptable.

First of all, after I make a fire the house smells like smoke anyway, and secondly, the draw from the fire might pull the cigar smoke up the chimney.

Has anyone tried this, and with what success?

Thanks!

This should work. Only hazard would be catching your hair on fire while blowing smoke up the flume. :r

Yes it will pull the smoke up the chimney.Just stay close enough.
When I use my wood stove I have to leave the doors open...

:tpd:
I use the same tactic and it works great. Give it a try!:cb

Cool, I think I will try this. Probably won't be for a while since the new baby is coming soon. I would probably wait until it's just me at home for the experiment and that's not likely to happen soon. Thanks for the input, as always!

It works.

I have a fireplace in my study and when its lit and the flu is open it works if you are close enough.

I used to smoke cigarettes this wayis when i was 15, I had a fireplace in my room, i never go caught:ss

I used to smoke near my fireplace during cold winters in North Carolina. It worked very well. My roommate had a very sensitive nose and never complained about the smell.

Joed and I tried this out Friday, and it worked like a charm. Of course a fire is required, and the next morning all I could smell was oak.

:tpd: Me too! Ours was in the Living room. My dad came in one night to put an extra log on there. I almost crapped and swallowed the cig. I threw it real quick and said, wooo...it's cold. "Well put a dam log on there dummy, instead of smokin' them dam cigarettes". BUSTED!!

Very Cool Dad & good story. Perhaps it explains why you turned out to be such a good parent yourself.:)

If I can't sit in a nice chair and calmly expel my cigar smoke, I'm not enjoying my stogie. Sure the cigar smoke would be drafted up the flue if you blew it into the firebox with a log burning, but how comfortable would you be?
