Cigars for wedding

Regardless of what you choose you may want to concentrate on the medium level rings so your guests do not have trouble with cutting.

ETA: You also may want to dry box them if you intend for people to light with matches.

In addition to medium RG's, i would go with a shorter stick, no more than corona or petite corona size. Most that smoke them are going to smoke no more than 1/4 of the stick, then throw it away.

I've handled the cigars for 4 nieces/nephew weddings in the last 3 years. I was the only one at each of them to smoke more than half a stick. Not because they are bad sticks (they were mild but flavorful), it is just that no one had the time to sit down and fully enjoy the stick. Mostly light it, hit a few draws, chunk it and go back inside to the other festivities.

Good luck on your wedding and cigar plans.

Reserve a good quality one for yourself as the Groom, it isn't in bad taste. I always give the groom a premium to smoke. One up-coming in October, my niece likes CAO Moontrances, so I will have her one in a tubo size to smoke.

WAIT!!!!

Why do the 30 some weddings a year that I shoot (as a photographer not a marks men) NEVER do things as cool as this?

AND your in my area!!!!

Have a wedding photog yet? ;)

Congrats! Sounds like a great wedding

i think the idea of shorter sticks would be great if it were a wedding full of cigar smokers.

The fact is, it's probably a bunch of folks who wouldn't give a damn if you gave them a Philly Titan.

I'd buy a medium Toro size that didn't cost very much. That way they've got something big to stick in their mouth for all the pictures, they feel masculine by smoking a "large cigar" and they can basically feel good about all the stereotypes that they're fulfilling.

That's nothing against them, it's more of just an observation on my part.

LOL... Actually it was an idea that we partially got from my cousins wedding and partially from photos that our photog took of a previous wedding. Unfortunately, we are not getting married in the area. Sorry dude, next time put out the "idea" to your grooms.

It is a valid observation but the size is an important part of the equation. I feel almost cartoonish with a churchill but it feels like something is missing (like the rest of the cigar) when I have tried a petite.

I'll second Leon as being a decent smoke. Very cool band too, they look nice.

I third that. Leon burns perfectly, they are very nice to look at and are mild and creamy. I have been smoking a lot of them. I think CA rated them a 93 a few years back too.

I am also getting married this december in Jamaica and was thinking about doing something with cigars. I have seen some sites which lets you make your own custom bands. Not sure if you have to buy their sucky cigars too, or just the bands. I think I am going that way...

dude trust me on this one.....try a java ...a cigar everyone will love includeing the aroma...very very smooth and sweet on the lips...made by drew estate and rockypatel....jus go try it you"ll see.

If you can get them, Romeo Y Julieta Corinata En Cedros are my recommendation, and I've not tried that particular RyJ yet!! I'm just going by the reviews I've read, plus, RyJ Petit Carona's are my fave's.

Let me get this straight... you are going to a country where you can legally buy cubans with a pocketful of custom bands?

Let me know how that works out for you.

I agree let us know how that turns out, don't know if they offer internet in the prisons down there though..

Uhm yeah, I'm not going down with bands as not many people are able to do a "destination" wedding. SOOOO....the cigar bands would accompany the cigars, which will be in this country, along with all the guests at the reception. The bands are not made for smuggling cigars, but rather as a memorial of the occasion. You think half the people at weddings smoke cigars???

And just my :2, the cubans that I have smoked, though not as many as most people on here, didn't deserve the price or the hype surrounding them found here in the states.

DO NOT SPEND TOO MUCH!
Any real cigar smoker is going to bring his own. From personal experience the guests will waste them or "take it home for later".
5 Vegas Gold or Leon Jimenes will be well recieved by "real" cigar smokers.
I always bring a box of cigars to weddings and have learned that a decent mild cigar will please a lot of people. Consider Don Diego, Alec Bradley Sun Grown, or even a decent bundle. You can put them on a tray or in a classy looking serving dish or a cheap humidor.
Oh, Congrats on the wedding!!!!!!:ss

Ok so after looking at CI I think I might go with something from this page.

Looking at these possibilities:
5 Vegas Shorties
Leon Jimenes Cafe Dominicano Petite Corona
Leon Jimenes Creme De Menthe
Sancho Panza Matador

So again... out of that list what would be more of a crowd pleaser? Also, there are others on there I could get such as the variety of CAO's they offer. I am expecting (that I can think of off hand) approximately 20 people that will smoke there. So quick but good is a definite plus, looking at petite corona or coronas as the largest.

Ok well I have been a lurker of these forums for a few months now as I have been mulling this over in my mind for some time.

My fiance' and I will be getting married in October in beautiful Carmel, CA and would like to offer a small humidor with cigars as part of the reception. A smoker for about 6yrs now I have grown accustom to the quality of Carlos Toranos' and Rocky Patels (among others) and would like to get something that is a good smoke for the reception.

However, the budget is limited but I would still like to get approximately 50 cigars for the people that come. My fiance' said that I can spend about $150 total on the cigars.

Thanks for your help!!! :ss

Perfect choice, Montecristo white label. Great smoke for the money.

Don't go overboard on the quality of the cigars. My personal experience was that most of the people that will take one won't the difference between a cigar and a deep fried turd. Also most of them won't appreciate them

I don't plan to go overboard on the quality as I anticipate that most will take them home only to toss them some months later. However, there are a handful that will enjoy a nice cigar there and will understand the quality that I bring and appreciate that. This is part of the reason that I was going for these smaller cigar deals from CI. I can still get a very good quality cigar, in a large amount for relatively cheap.

Congrats on your wedding,
I'd just make sure you don't get busted by the catering hall. Make sure they will allow Cigars. I would thing it might not be legal in most states to smoke inside. unless your where thiking of pulling every one out side. or do you just want to give it out as a gift???

Congrat's on the wedding.
CI has a weekly special on Don Diego Napa Estate Tubos - $2 a piece. A 30 piece box for 59.99. Spend $30 more and get a box for yourself as well.
Not a bad deal if you ask me.:tu

Don Diego go over pretty well at these events. Casa Torano is a good choice as well, Very very mild, most people like them, short smoke, semi complex flavors at times, but most people wont notice that.

good luck!

Congrats on the Wedding!

Brad
