Cigars I am smoking on vacation

Todays first smoke is a blind taste test.
Rob at Taboo sent me a cigar a few weeks ago to try so I thought I would wait until now to try it.

Thanks Rob, wish I knew what it was :D

Chas

I'm guessing it's one of those Limited Reserve Connecticuts. But that's just a wild ass guess. :r

This was a sampler of the new Taboo LR. We narrowed it down to two conn. wrappers, so I'm not sure if this is the one we decided to go with. The two conn wrappers were a dead tie and I had to pick just one. One the one I decided to go with, I pick up some of the same flavors you mentioned. There was not a lot of difference. We went with the stronger one of the two. I'm sure that is what you had. Do you recall any # that I may have put on the bag?

Nope no number on the bag.

I will pick some up for sure :tu

Todays second cigar is a Carlos Torano something (I forget) while making dinner:

Very nice smoke for doing a little grilling and steaming.

Tonights meal consisted of:
  • Breaded shrimp
  • Barbecued fried shrimp
  • Crab legs
  • Strip steak with buttered onions and mushrooms
  • Baked potato's
  • Whole petite green beens

After a meal like that I need to soak in the hot tub :D

Chas

Which Tats?

I am partial to the Tat Brown Unicos myself :dr

I forget, will have to look.

Yesterdays last cigar of the day was a Graycliff 1666.

What a disappointing cigar.
I smoked it all the way down wishing it would get better but never did
No pictures since the camera batteries were charging.

It had absolutely no depth to it and tasted like a Marlboro cigarette.

Oh well today is another day :tu

Man, what a great looking spread! With Scooby Snacks, to boot! :r

Nice - I just got back from the OBX a couple of weeks ago. We were right near you, in Duck. I had a Torano one night too. :D

Yesterday was overcast and rainy all day. The rain was blowing in on the decks most of the day so it was a day for inside stuff. I figured I would catch up on some paper work so I only smoked 1 cigar all day. Dinner was nothing special, just hamburgs and bratwursts so after dinner we decided to try to get a quick walk in on the beach. I decided on an Oliva Serie V Figurado.

The next storm was rolling in so we only got a quick walk.
The wife and dog were running along the water as I snapped photos, drank my beer and smoked away :D

Only 2 more full days of cigar smoking left.
We leave on Saturday morning and I will not smoke on the way home.

Chas

I was staring at the beer bottle behind your cigar in the photo above... I'd never heard of "Outer Banks" beer, was getting all excited to try it next time I go down there. Then I realized... wait, that's just a koozie. :hn

:D We brought dog food too
But with all the good leftovers the only thing of his he is eating is the Scooby Snacks :hn

Oh well its his vacation too.

On a side note, I will pick something up for your pass that I owe you
Since I am down here it should not be to hard to find something for you.
Never did find the stub so I will make it up to you and get you something while I am down here :tu

Todays first cigar of the day was at high noon on the deck.
I decided to fire up a San Cristobal that I got in a box pass a few months back:

A full flavored cigar on a hot sunny day requires a drinking buddy,
So I called on my drinking buddy and we settled in for a few hours of deep conversation, drinking and smoking:

This was only the second one of these I had ever smoked and it was just as good as the first.
We just kind of bummed around the house today and then went to dinner in town.
Once we got back we decide to have a soak in the hot tub.
I decide that would be a great time for the La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero that I have been sitting on.

Man what a great cigar :tu
The days here are starting to wind down and tomorrow is our last full day here.
We leave Saturday morning before noon so hopefully the weather cooperates for our last day.

Chas

Man, I just read this entire post and all I am doing is drooling all over my keyboard. This vacation looks like what a vacation is supposed to be: relaxing and unplugging from the normal everyday (except for CS of course). Have a great last day!! :tu

Last full day on the Island and I decided to kick it off at high noon with a 2005 GOF that I have been holding for just this week. Shortly after joining CS I was gifted this fine cigar from none other than the Wizard Vin in the Make A Wish thread. I debated several times to light it up and once we decided to take this trip I stashed it away for just the right day.

Today was that day :D

smallfri01.jpg

Temperature was about 83 degrees, a slight breeze blowing in your face and shade from the deck above.
I lit this masterpiece up at Noon and spent the next 2 hours nursing it slowly and a few drinks :D

smallfri02.jpg

Construction was truly perfect.
Burn was razor sharp and the ash held well over a full inch keeping the smoke cool and sharp.
Like the Opus there is a lot of hype surrounding this cigar
and while I enjoy a spicy full bodied cigar, this one was much mellower than I prefer.
That being said it was by no means a bad thing.
Construction and burn are as important as taste and this one gets a 10/10 in those departments.

smallfri03.jpg

I smoked this one down about another 1/2 inch past the above picture and will give it a 9/10.
It would have been a perfect 10 had it had some more "kick" too it.

Thank You Vin, if nothing else goes right today, at least 2 hours of my day were as close to perfect as one can hope for :tu

A few hours of souvenir shopping for a CS contest and now its time to start preparing for the evening barbecue.

Chas

Chuck, you've made my sh!tty day just a little brighter. It make me feel good to see you enjoying that stick.

Hope the rest of the vaca treats you well. :tu

sounds great......obx = heaven hope to retire there someday...enjoy the rest of your trip..btw noticed the scooby snacks on the counter

The last night on the Island and the weather cooperated so we took our last walk on the beach.

Tonights cigar was a Tat (something, not sure)

smallfri04.jpg

Sunset is about 7 pm and it was about 6 when we left.
The wife was trying to convince the dog to go in the water but he was having nothing to do with it.

smallfri06.jpg

It only took a few minutes before they both got wet :D

smallfri07.jpg

Needles to say he was not a happy camper but we got a good laugh out of it.

smallfri08.jpg

A perfect way to finish the week, spending time on the beach with the wife and a great cigar.

smallfri05.jpg

As we walked back to the house we discussed the week and are truly blessed to be able to enjoy the beauty this country contains. This week also allowed me to relax and reflect about the great people I have had the privilege to be introduced to here at CS. As a small way to say thanks to everyone here, please look for my OBX Vacation contest.

We pull out at AM and should be home by midnight.

Chas

You bastid, you're supposed to be building me some damned Vino drawers!

Haha, but really, sounds like a freaking blast. I wish I was there doing that right now :tu
