I'm traveling home for the first time since I was born (1977) and was wondering if anyone knew of any brands that are made in the Philippines?

La Flor De Isabela ( I think?)
Or Just go to Northern Part like Isabela Province or most of the
Ilocos Region for Custom blend.
Cigars in the Philippines are all made from Ilocos Region but You can find all brands at Makati City the financial capital.
I'm not sure though if you will going to like any of the brands.
I'll go for the Custom roll...

Salud!

Don Juan Urquijo apparently was/is a decent cigar. There is some information in here:

DON JUAN URQUIJO VINTAGE 1993 Robusto
The Don Juan Urquijo robusto, a new cigar from the Philippines has nothing to be ashamed of for its performance in our review. A clean-smoking and smooth smoke, the Don Juan Urquijo brought home kudos for its stellar construction and appearance, while its light flavor also won praise from our panelists. The only knock against this cigar was that it might leave the seasoned smoker a bit hungry, but as far as mild players go, this one picks up momentum towards the finish line, and ultimately pleases the palate. Recommended.

Otherwise, Pinoyman is right. Custom rolled cigars are a better choice. Contact either La Flor de la Isabela (maker of Don Juan Urquijo) or Tabaqueria de Filipinas (http://www.tabaqueria.com/index.html).

I wouldn't mind a box split of Don Juan Urquijo actually :)

My brother went thier a long time ago and said that thier soil is very good. Both names above are made by the same company(the oldest one thier) as you will read in the article. I think it's in Manila. I was going to order a box but for a 75 dollar box they want 34 dollars shipping. Let me know what you think of them.

It has to travel half of the world. South East Asia probobly has the worst shipping charges for us that reside in North America.

You will be better off ordering them in Europe where shipping charges will be cheaper.

Hello all from Manila! Thanks for the replies and the information. I'm here for a few more days and have already picked up a couple boxes of stogies to bring back to the states. Its been HOT here in Metro Manila and luckily I was able to get away for 4 days to Borocay and enjoy the white sand and the lovely ladies on the beach.

I'd post the boxes I bought but the wife has already packed them away and would kill me if I went to go unpack them. I just wanted to say hi and thank everyone for their input. I'll post more when I'm back in the states.

My bro is in the P.I. right now and trying to get ahold of him to grab me some Customs..Did you get Customs?

No customs here...went to SM and some other places in Makati and picked up 3 boxes of the following:

La Flor de la Isabela Don Juan Urquijo
La Flor de la Isabela 1881
Tabaqueria de Filipinas Cigars Antonio Gimenez
Tabaqueria de Filipinas Cigars Flor de Filipinas
Tabaqueria de Filipinas Cigars 1898 Independencia

Lets hope I have no problems with US Customs...

There is a La Flor De la Isabela plant near where I am staying here in Marcello Green so maybe I will pay them a visit and see what I can get my last two days here.

Boracay ... powdery white sand beaches ... brown beauties ... looks like you are enjoying yourself out there ...

If you're smoking a lot of ISOMs, Philippine cigars will be a disappointment. I've smoked most of them a few years back and other than the Don Juan Urquijo, all of them are pretty bland. You can get Cuban cigars there but the prices are out of this world. I was at Churchill's at Shangrila 2 weeks ago and paid $45.00 for a Cohiba Esplendido and $40.00 for a Siglo V. You will have a lot of fun visiting but you're better off bringing your own cigars. I brought 52 and finished them all in 9 days.

Cigarflip is right. Better bring your own if you are smoking habanos. Just make sure to finish it all before coming back here.

Places to smoke in Manila
Churchill's is at EDSA Shangrila Hotel. Nice place to hang out while the wife is shopping. Do not even attempt to buy a box from them. I managed to sneak a peak into their humi on the pretense of buying a box. I was surprised to see Partagas Shorts with an 01 boxcode. Only to find out that the proprietors just refill the box with new production. So you could buy an 01 cab but the cigars are from 05.

Kipling's at the Manila Mandarin. This Cigar bar has more selection than the other two smoke bars. Obviously, the smokes are supplied by Pacific Cigar Co.

The last one is also in the Makati Area (financial District). Below the Renaissance Hotel is a small smoke bar. Smaller than Kipling's, and also charges for bringing your own smokes. They also do not have much of a selection. Though I forget the name.

Just FYI and PM me for more info.
