Cleaning a old dusty humidor?

puffy

Newbie in the jungle
I was given a humidor the other day that is about 1' high and 2' in length with about a 1' and 1/2 in depth.

It says "stogie express" on the inside label and it has some scratches on the wood surface outside.

Inside it's very dusty(It has not been used in a long time)with all sorts of particles in it.It's safe to say it has been stored away for some time.

As far a cleaning it goes........can I clean the inside with a wet cloth or should I try to air blow it out?

should I use a dry cloth instead?

newbie here just trying to find the proper way to care for this humidor.

Any advise would be aprecitated.
Thanks

I would first blow out any excess dust. You could try to vacuum it out with an attachment. Then I would wipe the inside with a slightly damp cloth. Probably best to use distilled water for this although using tap water one time won't hurt it (IMO).

Good luck!

I agree with fizguy I think I would use air and maybe then vacuum out before I would use distilled water then I would think you would be ok:tu

Thank you guys,

I just went online and found this humidor,it's made by stewart/beckwith and the model is called the original stogie express.Sorry I could not link up the actual picture.

It has some scratches on the outside wood surface,so I will try to fix that also.It came with a little box humidifer inside that sounds like it has beads in it.I would imagin it's still good and that it works

Thanks again

I would blow/vacuum out the inside and then wipe it out with a clean lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.

Is this it?

If so NICE :tu

If you want after cleaning it out take a piece of 200 grit sandpaper and lightly sand the inside. That will freshen up the cedar. Just wear a dust mask when sanding cedar.

Yes, this is exactly the one I have.I pretty much took care of cleaning it with a vacumm and then a light damp cloth.i went to the cigar shop and bought myself a hydrometer/humfier dial.

It was at the right temp setting in the cigar store but on the ride home it dropped down to 50%.Does it usually take a long time to get the humi dial back up to the right setting?

I am starting to worry now that the humification system is not working right.

I will check it in the morning.

thanks
