Clubstogie Fly Rod for auction!!!

I just received all the bands from Pistol. Going to get this project started tomorrow. Pics of the progress are gonna start later this week. :ss

Alright, after doing a ton of research on how to preserve the bands under the epoxy, here's what I've got! I'm not impressed with how the Davidoff band came out. Of all the test bands I did, none had the splotch that the Davidoff has. Pistol, shoot me a PM in regards to that band...

Using these thicker bands in the grip was the only feasable way of incorporating them into the rod. The small Dunhill bands will be used as bracket wraps around the inscription.

After one coat of epoxy on the grip and bands....

What a great idea and what a great rod sure isn't a uglystick that's for sure,Nice work can't wait to see the finished pics.Next stop your web site:ss

John,
No big deal man. It's a splotch, I'm going fishing with it, not taking it to a black tie dinner! It's all good, and it's looking great so far!:tu

IMPRESSIVE!!!! That is truly one of a kind. Who is going to use the Smurfs rod and reel now that you got that one Pete?

I don't know how to fly fish, yet. But I do like to fish with other kinds of rods. Will you be having any others up for auction? I drool with anticipation.:dr

The second round of pics.... It's taken a while to get the grip right. The epoxy just wouldn't settle correctly, so after 12 tries (yep, 12) we're finally there. Also added the dunhill bands in the bracket wraps. Turning out pretty nicely. I'm diggin' the yellow wraps, too.

Wow, that's a good looking rod. Tight wraps. Have built a dozen rods over the years and can appreciate all the effort going into this one. The 8'6" is a good, open stream rod and the 5 weight will present that caddis as light as a feather . Haven't built one in years...kinda gets the juices flowing to break out the Golden bamboo. Regardless, pistol got a GREAT deal on this one and the jungle hath benefit of it all. Word of advice...fish it once, hang it on the wall:2:tu:tu

Here it is, the final product. Taken me long enough, hasn't it? This has been an extremely challenging project with the bands on thr grip and the epoxy work. Getting that as smooth as possible has taken many coats...

Hope you like it Pistol. Thanks again for your generous bid. You'll have to post some pictures of your first trout on this rod!

Let me be the first to respond! It's a beauty!!! I can't wait to take it out on the Provo! Hopefully we get some warm weather this winter so I can take it out. Thanks again, you are an amazing craftsman, and I will get many many good years of use out of it. This isn't going to be just a pretty knick knack (although it is gorgeous!), I'm going to use the hell out of it (and take GREAT care of it, please send care instructions so that this rod will be around as long as I will!)! :ss

I have to second Pete's thoughts. That's truly amazing and unique.......wow. Definately a conversation piece bringing many hours of enjoyment. Congrats Peter.
