Well, i've waited a couple weeks for someone else to do a review of this new Cohiba, becuase honestly writing reviews is very difficult for me.
But either no one has seen them yet, or gotten around to doing a review.
So here we go.
It was about 2 weeks ago i walked into Cigar King in here in skokie, to pick up a couple sticks for that evening. My buddy that manages it was gone for the day, and i was greeted by a new guy, and fairly young BOTL at that.
He was smoking a fat BLACK as night cigar, with a familiar label. I asked "hey, is......is...that, a Cohiba???" He said, "yep, just got em today. you HAVE to try one."
Well, i snagged a 5.5 x 50 (approx size). and the VSG i really came there for.
We chatted a bit and then i took off.
Later on when we got to our destination, i was contemplating smoking the VSG and aging the new Cohiba. but thought, if its crap, whats the point. so of course i would have to determine that by lighting that bad boy up right now!
Glad i did, because the results were very surprising. or maybe not?
After we ate, i grabbed the Cohiba, and took it out of its cello, yes it still has the little sticker that makes sure you KNOW this Cohiba has nothing to to with the cuban version. and boy oh boy, in more ways than one....
Anyway, to Cut to the Chase the overall appearance of the stick was impressive. very smooth wrapper. well rolled. a very hefty stick to boot!
I clipped the head and lit it up. was an easy light, and draw was excellent.
the first few puffs were tasteless as hell.
The burn was perfect in the first quarter. and within, i had pretty much no flavor other than that "red dot" tobacco taste, and a hint of cocoa trying desperatly to break through.
the second quarter was more of the same. it tasted a bit closer to a Partagas Black though. had that underlying for sure. but, it was red dot all the way. Burn still perfect, and still smoking great.
the third quarter was severly depressing. it started to get bitter. just like the dam red dots. i started getting a grassy flavor. the partagas taste went away. so i was left with -Grass- tobacco flavor -slight cocoa-. thats it. burn still perfect, still smoking great.
Mind you, my friends dont smoke stogies, but being that i dont make it a point to smoke crap, they noticed a change in the way my cigar smelled compared to usual. yes, even they could tell it was crap.
So basically right as the burn got right before the label, i decided to chuck the whole damn thing into the metal garbage can. i wish i would have saved the label though, as a reminder. or maybe a WARNING.
My mouth tasted like crap. I was $15 bucks in the hole i couldve spent on....man, ANYTHING else. and it was too late to light up the VSg to get any satisfaction.
Overall out of 100 i give it a 83. Horrible. Well maybe not horrible. But bad for sure. Put a maduro wrapper on a regular NASTY red dot, and TAAA DAAA! Cohiba Black!
Sorry for no pics, i wasnt prepared.
