I know these have probably been asked but before u make a wise guy comment do a search on coolidor might think of making a coolidor faq sticky IMO.
I did find the thread that mentioned Wally World specials on the shell.
Heres my questions:
1)Lining, specifically: Do I need one, should I get some SC or is it ok to use the wood from cigar boxes? While not poor, I do have a wife and 2 kids one of which is in a private skool so I need to save $$ on this so I can spend more $$ on fine cigars :r .
2)Storage of said cigars: Do I need to build some wood shelving, or will plastic shelving work? remeber Imma noob so I ask for the same reason as the linning, while it may not be pretty if I can get some plastic shelving line them with cigar box wood will it have the same effect OR do I even need the wood?My wife uses these little plastic shelves with slats in the bottom for paper work on her desk they are stackable and would work great for lining with cigars .I'm mostly interested in effecting the taste. IMO even tho I have a small budget ATM I would rather suffer a shortage of cigars in the short term over suffering bad taste in ALL my cigars over the long term.
3) If I do decide to build or you decide I need to what type of fastening do I use. For instance I build some shelving do I use ONLY glue? Since I am on the subject do any of you woodworking gurus know of a way to clamp or apply the pressure needed to get a good bond without spending money on clamps that will after this project do nothing more than take up space in my garage ?Wiill screws or nails work.?Or will the coatings on them play havoc with humidifier as well as effect taste? and what about brass? I see it is mostly used in the hinges so I assume maybe some all brass bolts/nuts or lag screws might work if I dont have the capacity to glue and clamp properly.
4) When setting up my coolidor do I need to do anything to insure a proper seal around the lid? If so what do you suggest, will a simple silicon sealer work and if so how long should I let it set before stocking my new tub-o-joy ? I know most silicon sealers have an odor so Im assuming I will have to let it set for a few days for it to disapate.
5) putting the cigars inside: Do I need to remove the cigars from their boxes or can I just open the lid. While it may be ok to leave in the box will they age better if lined on shelving or does it matter.
6) do I need a latch/lock system as well or should I just wrap it with some bungee cords to make sure the lid stays closed then put it out of reach?
That's all I can think of ATM. seems to me a guy needs a plan to do things right.
I know there are some things I have missed so feel free to add/critique this please.
