Cutters

goatfarmer, like the thread. i think i'm now in the market for a new cutter as well so this is helpful. i am using a "shark" which my wife bought me a few months ago. looks nice, but the screw popped out of one of the hinges and now it's difficult to use. the manufacturer said they'd fix, but i'm still waiting. like the sound of the palio and the look of the xikar.

Usually cheap, if it was'nt for the retailer, I would probably be using my teeth. Recently noticed the cheapo's are not cutting very well, the end of the Oliva V smoked last night looked as if I used a hack saw. Anyhow Dinosaur, I am with you I like the appearance of the Xikar, but the Palio sounds better. May hold off for couple days, believe there is a B&M that is within a reasonbable traveling distrance carrys both, once I use the Palio likely be sold.

I have both the Xikar and the Palio, but the Palio is the one I always use. It comes with a case and the ciagr rest is just another plus.

I have a bunch of cutters. A few cheapie ones, a couple Xikars and two different styles of Palios.

The others have just been collecting dust since I got the Palio. Wouldn't even consider using something else nowadays.

:tpd::tpd: Dustin knows things. I have two Xikars sitting the the drawer, while my Palio does the heavy lifting. :tu

Way back in the day when I started with cigars, this was the standard. They are still a great cutter and certainly the originator.:

It comes down to preference. I'm a gadget freak so I have one of these and the action and cut on it is phenomenal. It also takes up to a 58 ring gauge:

I also have one of these which works great, but is smaller:

And one of these that I've had for quite some time:

and of course one of these. By the way, the owner of this company is an absolutely phenomenal guy:

Again, it's a choice thing. I love my gadgets and my cutters. The cigar lifestyle is a disease...but it's my favorite disease! :ss

Like many here, I have both the Palio and the Xikar. The Palio makes a smoother cut but I prefer the way the Xikar feels in my hand and the action is easier for me to use on days when arthritis is acting up. Either choice will be a good one and I would agree that in general the Palio is superior.

I think my Xikar worked well, but because of the design it just feels akward in my hand. I have since bought a Palio and never looked back.

I've got a Palio, and to be honest, other than the fact that it is razor sharp, and hold that edge, I'm not a fan. Looks cheap to me, and I can't seem to get a flat, straight cut, just from the way I hold it. That's a personal problem though...nothing against the cutter.

I want to try a Xikar, and to be honest, I think of the three, the Zino is the best looking...try what you can, then decide.

I've actually gone away from blade cutters of any kind. Started using a punch a couple of yrs ago find a lots less destruction happening. If i don't have my punch with me i use a small Swiss army knife and just cut off the cap. I found cutters are made to be lost, have gone thru a few over the yrs.I usually buy my punches on ebay, you can sometimes get a couple for real cheap.:2

Trade you a xicar for your palio.

As an impulse buyer, I tend to pull the trigger for items with absolutely no forethought, it's that way with me for cigars and tools. That being said, purchased the Xikar, and signing up for the Palio group sale. The Xikar came in an exotic box, if they were to cut back on packaging they could sell the cutter at a reasonable price.

In trying to find the accessory that best suits us, most of us go through that in this hobby. I have both and a bunch of others, but it's the single blade Havana Cutter I use daily.:)
