Dad's 60th bday party: Box Suggestions?

CubanLink

Young Ape
This saturday, we're throwing a big party for my dad 60th birthday. There will be lots of friends and family (50 to 60) , lots of music, lots of liquor and of course the proverbial roasted pig (being that we're Cuban). I want to buy a box for the party for me, my dad and the guests can enjoy.

A special occassion like this would normally call for the big guns. But, my dad is a cigarette smoker unfortunately, but does enjoy a nice cigar on occassion, and most of the guests (if any) are not big cigar smokers.

My usual suspects don't seem appropriate. Padron series is great value, but in my opinion, not newbie friendly. High end Padrons would be a waste. (To see them underappreciated, butchered and pre-maturely smothered would only bring tears to my eyes.) I've been exploring la flor recently, and love them, but the ones I have tried are too potent for the inexperienced and underinsured. Tats are out. Other Pepins?

Any suggestions?

The white lable tats are a great value cigar. They taste great and you won't mind seeing 3/4 cigars mashed out in the ashtray.

I've said this before, most occasional smokers (golfers) enjoy the Fonseca regular line... Thanks my :2! :ss

Agreed :tpd:

You can also buy some Sancho Panza Extra Fuerte or Double Maduros for under 40 bucks a box. I find them both to be very newbie friendly.

Just by to :2

I think you should get some thing that your dad will like for him since you say he likes a good cigar once and a while, and get somthing great for yourself. For the guest have somthing mild and un expensive, but maybe have one or two extra good ones aside just in case you see one of the guest realy have interest in good cigars and wants to join you in a cigar smoking experience.

Enjoy the Party

Yeah, I'm having second thoughts about lower end smokes. I might go with more special smokes...Dad's worth it!

Did you ever try the Davidoff Series like the Davifoff 2000? I like those alot. But I allso like the Padron 1964 exlusivo, had one last night, I get them at the Davidof shop at clombud circle.

I have only tried the Millenium Series--robusto and a lonsdale. I loved loved them. I found the robusto in particular to be beautifully balanced. The lonsdale was given to me by Michael, the manager of the Columbus Circle Davidoff Shop, while I was sitting next to him at the Carnegie Club praising the Millenium robusto I was smoking.

Cool, I live in Brooklyn but go to Manhatan almost every Wendesday, and stop off at the CC davidoff shops, Davidoff Cigars are very good. I liked every one I smoked and other peopke there that smoke Davidoff tell me the same thing. Its good everytime.

By the way do you work at that store?

No, I don't. I wish I could hang out in a walk in humidor all day a smoke great cigars. But I do work a couple of blocks away from the Madison avenue shop and live a few blocks from CC shop.

How about a box of lower end, lighter, mild cigars and a box of higher end maduro's. The newbs will probably be scared off from the darkness of the maduros and grab the cheaper sticks. I know when I started smoking cigars, some of those maduros scared the hell out of me.

Thanks all for the advice. I went on my own and just purchased a box of Don Pepin Garcia Blue Label Generosos.

Omar ortiz Originals. I think they are fairly mild to medium high quality low price cigars. Gisperts are awesome cheap cigars and still one of my favorites.
