Davidoff Millenium Blend Robusto (pics) 56k beware

Young Ape
Hello friends! This is my second review on this site and I am choosing to evaluate, to the best of my ability, a Davidoff Millenium Blend Robusto. I had the opportunity to buy this smoke from a good friend of mine who has been in the cigar business for over a decade. This particular smoke has been in his humidor for one (1) year.

Cigar Specifics:

Wrapper: Ecuador
Filler: Dom Rep
Wrapper: Dom Rep
Made In: Dom Rep

This cigar looks fantastic. Superior construction. The wrapper pre-light/pre-cut tastes great...but to be honest I'm not really sure of what. Whatever it is, I like it.

In a moment of a sheer panic, I realize I forgot my cigar cutter. I sit alone for a few seconds, blinded by rage and my fists clenched and suddenly remember I might have an extra one in my car. I run out to my car with the speed of a Jedi Knight and I am fortunate to find one in my glove box. A wave of relief that seems tidal in scope washes over me in awesome way. I calm myself and head back into the porch.

I cut the cigar beautifully (a lot more precise than my older brother, who is smoking a Padron 5000 Maduro) and toast the foot of the cigar. After completely lighting it, incredible amounts of smoke come out of this cigar and I gratefully embrace it. A perfect union, man and cigar, face to face, contemplating life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

To be honest, I am not getting a lot of flavor out of this cigar. The aroma is lackluster and I am immediatly annoyed. It draws perfectly; however, I feel there is a lack of complexity that I desperately yearn for. As my brother and I discuss which songs we would like to hear on a Led Zeppelin reunion tour (my set-list obviously superior to his), I start to hope that this cigar is going to turn into a monster of perplexity and mystery. It does not. At this time I am relatively disappointed and begin throwing a temper tantrum.

So, I'm on the verge of tears because of this and combined with the fact I don't have a drink with me, I begin to sob uncontrollably. When my brother brings me a Great Lakes Brewing Company Oktoberfest, my involuntary shaking begins to stop. I regain my composure and focus on the cigar. My brother is laughing at me spinelessly but I ignore him, concentrating all my effort and power on this cigar review. I open the beer and take a sip and I feel at one with the universe again.

The cigar for about half of an inch starts to get complex. I am picking up strong notes of random spices, earthy tones and straight tobacco. However, this explosion of flavor quickly fades and I feel like I'm on the deep end. Up to my chest. Up to my neck. I'm drowning. Knowing what I paid for this cigar, I am overwhelmed with regret and disillusionment. I begin to panic because once again my brother is extremely happy with the Padron 5000 (that I gifted him with, he doesn't sh*t know about cigars) and I secretly wish that I would have never told him I had another cigar with me at the time of this review.

I finish the cigar. I swear to never buy another Davidoff again unless I get it for a 1/3 of the price I paid for this smoke. My mask of sanity is about to slip.

Haha, nice review. Davidoffs are known for being mild smokes if I'm correct. Do you usually smoke strong stuff? Might be a factor.

I got a few of these and also got raped on the price, so I hope I have a different experience :|

Well on the bright side, you did give it a perfect ten for prelight smell and draw and a 9.5 for construction so I guess the best way to enjoy this stick is to sit and hold it, draw on it and smell it without actually lighting it.:chk Kidding aside, sorry you didn't enjoy it. it takes a lot to pony up that kind of money for a flat cigar

Great review! Though I regard Davidoffs as the bees knees, your mileage may vary and you presented a very fair narrative about your experience with the Millenium Blend.

I have a box of these still in the humi and am just sitting on them for the time being. The last 2 I smoked were less than what I remember when they first came out. Back then, these were my favorite Davidoffs. I tend to lean toward the milder stuff and I find Davidoff in general to be incredibly complex.

In my experience with Davidoffs, they're a smoke that you really have to sit and take time with to fully appreciate. I just finished a Grand Cru #2 while listening to some music from the 30s/40s and reading a few chapters from the book, "My Early Life" by Winston Churchill. In my obviously not-so-humble-opinion-about-Davidoffs, it doesn't get much better :ss. Pricey? Indeed. But for my money, it's worth every cent and I have a real "experience" every single time I light one up.

Loved your American Psycho references! :r:r

Nice Review $13 smoke though, P.M, if you want. Your bro never went wrong with the 5000.

I'm sorry to hear about your experience. I think you may have set up your own experience up for failure to some degree due to expectations and the fact that you dropped 30 bones on the cigar. I've done similar and been disapponited.

I find the Millennium Blend Davidoffs to be of the finest cigars available. When I can drop 20 on a stick I do and don't think twice about it because I know I'm going to have an excellent smoking experience. Never had a bad one.

Don't write 'em off. Smoke another. Buy it at MSRP - not sure why your friend charged you so much for it. And enjoy some of the finest plumes of rich Dominican Tobacco that are possible.

Of course, YMMV!
