DERBY

I always look for a price in a large field stakes race. I'm looking at Adriano, the 15 horse at about 20-1.

10, 9 with the 10, 9, 20, over the 10, 9 , 20 , 6

A man that knows how to put together a trifecta parlay...NICE!

You guys should check out the Derby contest going on right now. Here's a link.

BTW - I'm still reviewing the program. I think I'm leaning towards Gayego, but that's still to be finalized :D

I learned to be afraid of playing the exotics in races with this many runners. For instance, I'm really scared of the 18, recapturetheglory, who's going to run for the lead early and could hang on to show. I'm scared of Bob Black Jack, caught at the wire at the Santa Anita Derby and a game show at the San Felipe a month before...Too many times I wind up trying to buy out the race and cash tickets that lose me money.

I've been eyeing 8Bells, Visionare, and Col. John most recently, not it's just a matter of how I'm going to bet them.....

Just goes to show you how much I know about picking winners.
Sad that the filly Eight Belles had to be put down!

I bet on a couple different horses small, then threw caution to the wind on Big Brown and bet big which paid off. The Eight Belles situation just goes to show how big of troopers these horses are. She broke two ankles and still came in 2nd, unbelievable. Great race though.

What a downer. Favorite wins easily. No position changes at the front coming down the stretch. 2nd place horse breaks down after the finish and has to be euthanized.

Can anybody who knows about this stuff explain what the heck happened? Or is just one of those "it's a part of horse racing" things?

This particular incident was quite strange, definitely just one of those things. The horse broke both of it's front ankles after the race was over. The horse was slowing down already, the jocky had already stood up if I recall. The horse had no way of standing at all since it was both front ankles, and one of the fractures came through the skin. The medics/vets really didn't have a choice but to put her down, very sad. I can't imagine anything that would cause a horse to break two ankles at the end of a race.
