Devil's Weed - by Molina Cigar
Wrapper: Ecuadorian Connecticut
Binder: Dominican
Filler: Dominican (4 leaves)
Country of Origin: Dominican Republic
Factory: Don Leoncio, SA

Size: Raleigh (Robusto)... at least, that's what the box said, but this stick was over 5" and I swear it was a corona, and not robusto. The RG didn't feel like 50 either. Moving on...

I went to one of my favorite parks near the river, grabbed a Wallstreet Journal, found an Arizona Sweet Tea, a bottle of water, and my camera. 72F with a small breeze. Perfect.

Let's look at a few things first. A) Construction was perfect. It was solid, well rolled, but not hard. It had just enough give to know before cutting that the draw would be great. B) Aroma was sweet ecuadorian tobacco, nice and clean.

I clipped off the cap with my palio, toasted the foot and we were on our way. The initial flavor was very little. Not much aroma, not much flavor until about a centimeter in where it was briefly harsh (i.e. bitter, unpleasant), but purging hard quickly fixed this. As the burn continued, I noticed a lovely presence of smoke, something I feel is often shy on Connecticuts.

The cigar seemed to putter on for about 3/4" until I purged again, and BAM! it the flavor profile opened WAY up. There was a creaminess to it I had expected, along with a notable sweet nuttiness. Usually with Conns I get kind of a macadamia taste, but this was closer to the taste left in your mouth after you eat a hazelnut. And there was of course, tobacco (shocking, I know). They say it's mild to medium bodied leaning towards medium. I found this section to be halfway between those two descriptions.

The burn was stellar. It lit easily, burned flawlessly, and never needed adjusting from beginning to end.

It ashed at about 1.65" and left virtually no cone to speak of, but this did not seem to effect the burn at all. When it ashed, I purged hard for about 5 seconds, then drew again. Holy taste explosion #2 Batman! We just hit medium! The flavor profile didn't change at all, there was simply more of it. Now I was really enjoying this cigar.

I took it down to about an inch, just where it became a bit harsh again, and let it die down softly because I wanted to end on a good note with this stick.

I liked it thoroughly, but for those of you looking for any heft in a cigar, this one's not for you. Good anytime of the day (I smoked my first one on a golf course in the evening, this was number 2) and with a myriad of beverages. I could pair this up with Jameson, coffee, tea (iced or otherwise), Coke (smoked the first one with Vanilla Coke) or even an ale.

I say, give this sucker a whirl. If you're looking for something in it's price range, I don't think it'll disappoint you.

nice review!!I'm a med to full bodied cigar kinda guy and I REALLY enjoyed this one and have picked up a few more. Good price, great cigar.:tu

The devil on the label of your cigar is blue?...With the ones I have the devil is maroon in color. Wonder what the difference is?

Other than that nice review and pics.... I experienced much of the same flavor profile as you did, minus the harshness.

They are maroon...but in the shade where I was taking the pics without flash, I set the color balance to get the wrapper color to be true to real color perception. It came out a bit washed on the first few pics I took.
