Did you come to cigars or were you introduced?

I have had a love affair with tobacco since I was a teenager. I used to run a lot, so I would dip snuff -- terrible habit, and I loved it. Finally convinced myself to quit.

In the vacancy dipping left I started smoking cigarettes. Did that for about 10 years. REALLY enjoyed it, but having a family convinced me it was time to put that habit aside. It took some willpower, but I finally just stopped cold turkey.

I would occasionally enjoy a cigar when I was a cigarette smoker, but felt I was so weak-willed that I didn't want to tempt myself with tobacco again. I finally broke down for a Superbowl party (Colts' year) at a cigar bar. I would have essentially smoked a few just from the air, anyway, but I had a Hemingway Short Story and really enjoyed the taste.

Now, I keep humi (or 2, or 3), but make sure I step away from them so i is not a daily habit. Rather, I enjoy them for special occasions, or for making a regular occasion special.

I had smoked some of the machine mades back in my younger days.

My stepson works at Swisher and always has some, and he would smoke one once in a while we were together. So I smoked a few with him. But I started learning about cigars by reading this and other boards, and it wasn't long before I was ordering online and going to the B&Ms. In less than a year I went from smoking a few swishers to a desktop humi from Tampa Humidor to now having a vinotemp. Hows that for sliding down the slope?

I was introduced by way of births. My first introduction was horrible so obviously he hated his baby and made me think I hated cigars. My second introduction was from someone who loved his baby and made me love cigars.

I came to cigars in my late twenty's. I smoked a swisher sweet or two when I was young but never really got into smoking until I stated smoking cigars.

A good friend an experienced smoker turned me on to cigars about two years ago. I have fallin' down the slope head first in both NC's and CC's ever since. But I'm not complaining.

My Dad was a pipe & cigar smoker and owned a tobacco shop. I started by pilfering HdM Excalibur #1 cigars from his walk in. Still love the Excalibur line but prefer the maduros now. Can't wait to try the new more robust Excaliburs people from the RTDA show have been talking about.

Father smoked cigars since I was 5 or so, so they have always been apart of my life. He bought me my first cigar when I was 15 while we were at Atlantis, would let me have one with him in a blue moon. Then when I graduated highschool, left for college my dad gave me one of his humidors stocked up with his favorites. Its been history since then.

A fraternity brother introduced cigars to me back in 1992. We were at our usual Friday afternoon club hang out (Albquerque's Hilton cantina for $2 pitchers and free fajitia, the best way to survive college!). While into our 3rd or 4th pitcher, Tim, pulled out a Excalibur #2 and started smoking it. I asked if I could try it and he gave me my first cigar. I've been an addict ever since.

I blame Croatan for pushing me down the slope toward the darkside!

Cigars were introduced to me by my father and both my grandfathers. My mother has a Uncle who grew tobacco in Cuba, then went to Nicaragua and grows some of the finest tobacco there now. Yet, the last several years I have become obsessed with cigars, it his one of my biggest hobbies.

I never had any cigar smoking friends before I joined this great site. I thought I may enjoy it and just went to the local B&M one day. I did have a friends Uncle give me a cigar at the golf course about five years before I got serious and that may have planted the seed, but nobody pushed me over the edge (until I joined Club Stogie).

I was completely trashed and ordered 12 premium cigars from cubancrafters.com, i didn't realise it till i got the e-mail in the morning.
:r I've had a couple of those nights.

I had quit smoking cigarettes, I tried a few cigars and didn't really like them (They probably were crap). Then a buddy of mine gave me a RyJ #2 Tubo which he brought back from a trip. Rest is history.

My father and I were roofing the house last summer. He likes short smokes so they were perfect to start on. I know Drew Estate and Acid is hated around here but I STILL enjoy the Krush Klassic Blue Connecticuts--little tin packs.

About a week after we finished the roof I was going away to a job at Cornell (I was a counselor at their Summer Sports School). He gave a me a 20 count humidor filled with a few different things.

On my one night off after three weeks of misery (this job worked us like slaves, different story) I went out on an enormous lawn, popped a Naturals Dark Angel in my mouth, and promptly experienced my first bout of nicotine buzz.

Hey is that our counselor over there puking in the bushes? Yes I think it is.

Girlfriends dad gave me a cigar. Smoked it about a month later. Been hooked since...plus it gives me brownie points with her father. :ss

I was working two jobs and was having trouble staying awake on the drive home. Then I remembered the seen from "Hoffa" when Bobby Ciaro (Danny DeVito) would let cigs burn down to his fingers to stay awake. So I thought a cigar might work and be less painful. LOL About 6 months later an old guy seen the crap I was smokin and showed me the light.

My dad and grandfather both smoked cigars, so I had smoked a couple per year since age 17 or so. Then last year my palette changed - I had a cigar and thought to myself, "This is really good!" Then a friend of mine gave me a cigar about two months later and I was on the slope... Within two weeks I was shopping regularly at the B&M.

I remember, when I was younger my dad smoked Muriels when we went fishing. I remember liking the smell (as apposed to cigarettes).

Last February, I took a vacation to Vegas and tried my first cigar. It was a WAY overpriced Antonio y Cleopatra. I LOVED it :r I ended up buying a few more and still have 2 for a future sentimental smoke.

I work with Mystophales, and he can take credit for officially shoving me down the slope. Without his help, I probably wouldn't have known where to start and would have given up on it. (or switched to Muriels:hn)
