Dip

There's nothing more satisfying than a dip on a full stomach....mmmm

:tpd:

I keep a can in the bathroom for a morning dip while in the shower. I know, that's pretty bad. I need to quit.

I started when I was 11, in the south it just seems to be the thing to do when your a kid and its funny how most of the parents dont seem to mind to much. At about 17 I started smoking also so then I had two wonderful habits, I would dip while at work and smoke at night.
At 30 I quit smoking cigs but doubled up on dipping from 1 1/2 cans to 2 full cans a day untill 37 1/2. Im now 39 and havent dipped in a year and a half and it was the single most crushing thing to quit in my life! For the first 3-4 days I the greeted the toilet throwing my guts up from w/drawl I went on the patch for two months didnt help a bit the only way to go was cold turkey and I still crave it but not as bad
Ive always loved cigars and thats all I do now but I dont inhale so I dont worry as much about that. It didnt bother me a bit to quit cigs but the dip was nerve racking!
My Dr tells me and is a close personl friend who believe it or not dipped for yrs his self tells me the trouble w/ dip is when one smokes cigs, the smoker will only take 3-8 drags off of a cig per cig. and then not smoke another for 15-30 mns. A person who dips if he is hooked will put in a dip and keep it there if time permits for 2-3 hrs! So you body is geting a constant flow of nicatine now think about having 5-8 dips aday and do the math.
He showed me in a medical journal one time that 1 can a dip has the nicatine equivalent of 250 -300 cigs That floored me!
So my advice to you is run as far away from this as you can! Its a monster.

I sucked on Skoal Bandits for many years. I quit last summer. Since the chew was in a little pouch & produced a minimal amount of juice, I just gutted it & didn't spit. It's funny, but I never attributed all the diahrea I had to the chew til I quit & my bathroom visits returned to normal.

Hope that wasn't TMI.

Thats funny. I do the same thing. A dip first thing in the morning gets me going.

Nothing like some Cope after a few beers. Speaking of which...don't mind if I do.

I believe Icehog has a particularly good chew/chew spit story. Hopefully he'll stop by and tell it again.

Best story Ive got is that between Pittsburgh and NC State, I filled a 2 liter bottle and then started in on a 12 oz bottle. I dont care how many degrees I get or how many dollars I make, that will always be a proud moment in my life.

When I joined Boy Scouts, most of the guys in my troop were either dipping, chewing, or both. I tried both, and hated it. Gave up trying to get used to it after about two weeks.

1.Me +my cousin + one pouch of redman + summer vacation +backporch + both at the great age of 14 = two piles of vomit on backporch and us sleeping all day.

I personally am a heavy dipper. I chew 3 tins a week and I only chew Skoal. I do it because I like the taste of it. I also like taking a pinch when I am smoking a cigar. I think it enhances the flavor and gives some cigars a flavor that is unheard of.

When I was in HS a friend and I got the bright idea to buy a tin of Skoal and see what all the fuss was about. We took it into a ladies' room at the mall we were at, opened it up, looked at it, and she said, "OK, now what?" I suddenly recalled a commercial (back when they still used to advertise tobacco products on TV) where some rugged-looking fella with a cowboy hat and a twang told us all exactly what to do - "Jest a pinch 'tween yer cheek 'n' gum..." Gawd, I think I spent a week trying to spit that sh*t out. :pu

(I knew eventually I'd find a reason to invoke the pukey smiley guys.)

It is the hardest tobacco habit to quit, has no redeeming social value (nobody gets together to sit around & spit while discussing the finer points of Cope vs Skoal) and most females hate it. Don't start. That $5/can/day habit is much better served with a $5/cigar/day habit.
This advice from one who still can't seem to give it up. Quitting cigarettes was a piece of cake compared to quitting chew. I say again, don't start!

As stated further down the thread by Port Arkansas, every can I've bought for the last couple of years has been my last one - well it really was on 3/3!!!!

I finally took my own advice and quit 2 weeks ago today. My employees are scared to death of me, my family is about ready to move out and I haven't seen the pets in days now, but it's a done deal. One of the very hardest things I've done. However, now I have $15-$20 more per week to spend on cigars!:tg

Stick with it Dale. Your over the hard part now :) I quit first of Jan and so far have not bought another can. So a little over three months. One of the things that has went right for me as of late.

I grew up partly on a farm (where there're lotsa ways to burn down a barn, if you've never been) and then went to a nuke and ordinance thingie in the Army for a few years. Smoking didn't work in those places so I chewed Mail Pouch, Red Man and that stuff; later started with Copenhagen and Kodiak. Love it - hate it. Gave up a 1/2-can a day for 1 cigar/day.

I never dipped, did chew though. Still enjoy a good chew every once in a while.

:tpd: use to chew Red Man with Bubble gum back in the day. shudder now to even think about it. Geez the things we use to do. :pu

WTG, Dale! Strong work!

I'm down to one or two hits a day. Just lemme say that quitting this AND keeping a my diet up at the same time is a

CAST IRON B!TCH!!!

Tried it for the first time bout a year ago. It didnt really do much for me tho except kinda get my mind off smoking when i was golfing and 2 windy 2 enjoy a cigar. Then i realized i was just picking up another habbit and decided to stick with one and just smoke cheaper cigars. Theres just nothing better then playing golf enjoy a cigar and nobody bothering ya.

I dipped for a few years, wouldn't Recommend it to anyone. It is an expensive, time consuming, high maintenance yet worthless act- although it is a highly efficient method of nicotine delivery...

Should you give in to the evil, and want to dip without puking, simply start with a small pinch- in the front of the lip so it doesn't slide back on ya. Keep some kind of rinse nearby so when the room starts to spin you can ditch the dip and rinse before... :pu reverse peristalsis.

BTW, use your bottom lip ;)

Did it for about 3 months when i was 14 or so, have'nt touched it since.

Gold River, I think it was.:pu

Did i a few times, thought it was OK. Best way to use tobacco if all you want is a hell of a nicotine buzz. Plus I always enjoyed the natural sun dried tobacco chews... not nearly as much nicotine, but a bit "safer" and with more flavor.

A little over 3 weeks now and I think I may live. The cats have returned home, the family started unpacking and my employees have begun answering their phones again.

Thanks for all the kind words of support!
