Do you care if your B&M has a wooden indian?

This may sound like a bit of a stupid question but I was thinking today and I really don't like it if the b&m I'm shopping at doesn't have a wooden cigar store Indian in the shop some place. Just feels wrong to me. Maybe I'm alone in this.

second question....where did the tradition of having a wooden indian in a cigar shop come from?

wow.. great history lesson there. I always thought it was an advertisement for Indian Tabac cigars..LOLOL

No problem, I figured thats what it meant, but I thought I would check it out. Another interesting note is the natives used to just toss the tobacco leaves in big piles and light them on fire and dance around inhaling the smoke. THe look on the Europeans faces must have been priceless when they saw that. :ss

Musta been cool to be the first European to smoke a cigar in the new world- I wonder if they had Humi's on the ship for the way back :)

Nice thread! Nice link too! I really want one for in my home lol. I have a bit of Native Indian in the family tree...too bad not Pequot or Mohegan...I'd have a lot more cigars than I do now...but enough. I think the association of Indians and tobacco is truth and not racist as some might think on wiki I guess. My local B&Ms all have them. Next time I'm out at the casino I'll look for theirs. They have one no doubt. I didn't care, but I do now.

I prefer it but am in no way bias regarding wooden Indians. I feel that it is a shops right and liberty to make this decision, and I will remain dedicated to my hobby regardless of the outcome.

I dig Kaw-Liga hanging around, but I don't think it would bother me much. Come to think of it... all of the ones I frequent HAVE Indians. Hmm :ss

I hardly see Native American statues anymore in my local B&M. I guess the advertisement "Cigar Shop" really helps. :ss

Does your mohel hang a watch from his storefront?

A man is walking down the street in New York City when he comes across a shop with clocks and watches hanging in the front window.
''Good!'' he thinks to himself. ''I can get my watch fixed.''

He walks into into the shop and says to the man behind the counter, ''My watch stopped a couple days ago. I'd like you to fix it.''

The shopkeeper replies incredulously, ''I don't repair watches, I'm a mohel!''

''Then why do you have all those watches and clocks hanging in your window?''

The mohel replies, ''What would you suggest I hang there?''
rimshot.

My B&M in Naperville has TWO indians and a Punch guy in the back.
They also have this day time guy who is in his 70s manning the counters named Max. He sure has some stories to tell you.
