I have 4 butane lighters, but i find that i still use my regular Zippo lighter every so often. I just like the clicking sound when u open/close and the flint dragging on the metal, i dont have the butane insert yet, maybe i'll get one soon. Just wanted to know if anybody else still uses theirs.

Cigars and/or pipes.:ss:pp What got me thinking about this when I remembered watching Ahnuld in a few of his movies, lighting up his stogies with a Zippo (Predator, Last Action Hero and Running Man). I thought that was so badass.

Many over at a pipe forum I frequent clued me in that Zippo recently (last year or so) changed the formula of their fluid. You can distinguish it by the new black can, and a banner that says "New Formula" on it. It's basically tasteless now, and actually has almost no smell. In combination with allowing it to burn for a couple seconds before lighting, there's no flavor at all that I can tell. I have a Zippo pipe lighter, and also a z-plus butane insert (excellent peice, and cheap).

Butane is nice too, but the bad rep that Zippo gets is no longer deserved IMO. The near perfect reliability makes it my choice if I can only carry one lighter - especially for my pipe which is difficult to light with butane or regular flame lighters without them going out or burning your fingers off.

I didn't know they had changed their formula. If there really is no taste of lighter fluid anymore it might be something worth looking into. I used to love my zippos when I was mainly a cigarette smoker.
 
After searching on that pipe forum and reading some of the comments, I guess I need to find a can of this 'new formula' lighter fluid and give it a test.
 
I use my Zippo with a Z-Plus insert in it . The poll should have had that as an option . So In a way I still use my Zippo , just the shell however .
 
yep, have one w/the standard butane insert & one w/the zplus-like the zplus but runs out of fuel quickly-the standard don't taste bad if ya let it burn for a few first-it always goes camping w/me
 
I used to have quite a few Zippos. Ended up giving them away to all my cigarette smoking buddies when I started smoking cigars.
 
Fuel and flint for me!! They light first and fast, very time. Cant say that about the butanes I've been around. I have three different brands and they all work.
