Domestic box codes

There has been some discussion on other forums about domestic box codes -- referred to as "Villazon decoder". I also saw a thread in CS about Lito Gomez date codes which seems accuarate. The Villazon code worked quite well up to a year or so ago -- I was using it on LGCs -- but it seems to be broken. The last date that I can be sure of is on a box of ERDMs: 1HCQ == Hondaran Colorado Nov. 2005. Anyone have insight on newer codes? I am gettign LGC boxes with codes, for example, 3MK :confused:

can't help you on this, but here's what i don't get; what could possibly be the reason for manufacturers to 'code' their box codes? seriously, wtf are they doing that for? just seems needlessly clandestine to me...

The reason is quite simple -
the First rule of Box codes is: Don't talk about box codes
the Second rule of Box codes is: do NOT talk about box codes!

Holy crap! This means that General bought out El Credito (Ernesto Carillo) doesn't it? Seems like I read that somewhere, but wasn't paying much attention. Is Villazon manufacturing the La Gloria Cubanas now? If so, has the blend's integrity been kept intact, or has it changed? Are they rolling them in Honduras? Holy crap! I like LGC & was getting ready to buy a box of wavells soon.

As I recall, General bought up Villazon a number of years ago and now control many brands such as Partagas, Macanudo, etc. The Villazon style code is on all of these brands. Ernesto still has a hand in the manufacture of LGC. An easy verification was the hand-written dates on many of JRs products (e.g., I have a box of ERDM rectuangluares from Nov. 2005) -- that is my last checkpoint.

Yeah, I knew about the Villazon buy out, but I don't believe Partagas & Macanudo ever had anything to do with Villazon (General owned the 2 labels long before they bought out Villazon). It's the El Credito/LGC buy out that I was surprised by.
 
So .... does anyone have a box of JR cigars that has the penciled in box dates (and the three character box code)? They used to have these on JR ultimates and others, such as the ERDM brand.:cb

I have a box of ERDM Rectangulares somewhere...box code 9HS, with a date of 15 NOV, 2003. Not penciled in though & too old to help I guess.

Hmmm, 3 left.

I have an empty LGC Wavell box that I bought a couple years back with a box code of 1MN...sorry again, I guess I'm no help, in addition to being an irritant.

Yeahh -- that did get hijacked :) Thanks for the info, K ... that is a heck of a problem in having old stogies :tu I have just been ripping through a couple of boxes of very tasty Wavells and just got to wondering -- what the heck happened to the codes. I can only guess they jumped a digit (or two) 'cuz these were not made in 2009 :)
