So my DPG sampler came in today and I decided to pull the string on the Blue label this evening. I am sitting out on my patio smoking it as I write this. First impression was that it might have been a little moist but figured I would give it a shot anyways.
The wrapper was silky to the touch and very uniformly firm. Cut perfectly with my Xikar and toasted the foot.
I could tell it was going to be spicy from the start. It lit very well and huge amounts of smoke right from the get go. Just as I was expecting alot of spice/pepper right off the bat.
After about 2 inches the pepper mellowed a little and I started to get hints of chocolate when I exhaled through my nose.
Once I got to about the half way their was even less pepper and I started to get hints of leather and the sweetness of the chocolate was still there in the background. I also started to get a little bit of a coffee like afterttaste.
This bad boy has been burning straight as a razor and huge amounts of smoke with a fairly firm ash through the half way point.
Now that I am about an inch or 2 past the halfway point the coffee is gone being replaced with a grassy/hay taste. (Wasnt expecting that from this fella). I also had to make a small burn corection but nothing big.
The rest of the cigar was pretty much the same till the end. The first 3/4 of this thing was quite good but the last 1/4 seemed to flatten out to me. Other than that this was quite a nice smoke. I will let the others get a couple months rest in the humi and see what that does for them. I still think this was a pretty good smoke.
