Dry Boxing?

I'm not a full noob, but I'm not as wise as many of the elders here either. I've tried running a search and haven't really found any useful answers, so I thought I'd ask directly and find out myself.

What is dry boxing? I've heard the term before, and it sounds fairly straightforward. But still, what is it, how is it done, and what are your thoughts on it?

I had thought it was putting an overly moist cigar in a dry, or dryer, humidor for a few hours to let the moisture in the cigar drop down to a good level.

To dry box or not is just a personal choice. If you keep your smokes at say 60 to 65% RH then you most likely don't need to dry box. If your smokes are kept at higher RH - then the dry box method may help with burn issues and taste. I also find that "tight" cigars tend to loosen up after a day or so.

Most NC's are shipped on the wet side - so putting them in dry box will allow them to evenly dry out some without doing so too fast.

I personally have an empty short story box that I keep on my desk that I use to transfer a handful of smokes that I plan on smoking. Works well for me.

Me personally I don't dry box but my cigars are usually stored at 63 % - 65 % and I have not felt the need to. Plus all my cigars "rest" at that humidity for 6 months or more before being "put to use".

Hope this helps.

If I decide to dry box a cigar, usually it's based on experience that if smoked as is, it's a little bitter, or a little too tight, or just by the feel of the cigar I can tell it's too moist. I will dry box a cigar for 24 to 72 hours by putting in any non humidified old cigar box. I prefer an old cab over a dress box. I may try several at different intervals to find an optimum time span. :2

Helped a lot, thanks! I think I may try it out with a few cigars and see if there's any difference. I know that a few Romeo y Julietas I've smoked had some burn issues that I think were from humidity. Kept them at 70 RH, so maybe I'll dry box a couple and see how they turn out.
